Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The Office of Research Compliance and Integrity ( ORCI) located in the Division of Research and Engagement at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro is responsible for the oversight of research integrity and compliance matters in the areas of: ethical conduct of human and animal research, responsible conduct of research, biosafety, federal and state regulations, export control and international travel or collaboration policies, external professional activities, conflicts of interest and commitment, and security.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of ORCI, the Assistant Director for Research Compliance provides leadership and oversight for compliance operations within the office. The Assistant Director for Research Compliance will be a subject matter expert for research integrity matters, with primary responsibilities for Export Control, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee ( IACUC) and Institutional Biosafety Committee ( IBC). The position also supervises the Conflict of Interest and Commitment Officer. As the Export Control Officer, they ensure procedures adhere to regulatory requirements while also designing processes to assist faculty and staff with their understanding of export control regulations. They will review and interpret policy and provide guidance to the IACUC and IBC committees. The position will implement policies and procedures that support a culture of research compliance and ethics while continuing to assure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations and policy.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required; for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity or professional-level background in sponsored research administration, will accept a relevant undergraduate degree and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution.
  • Applicants must have experience working in a higher education environment.
  • Applicants must be able to independently review COI Disclosures and make decisions related to approval or review by the committee.
  • Applicants must understand export controls, the IACUC and the IBC and effectively apply the knowledge.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or Juris Doctorate.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience assessing compliance risks in a university.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively at all levels in a university setting and as a team member.
  • Ability to supervise and mentor others.
  • Ability to approach problems and decisions analytically.
  • Experience analyzing, writing, implementing, and explaining policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the Cayuse system and other electronic research administration systems.
