Assists in the daily operation of the Animal Facility, in feeding of and caring for animals used in experiments.

Essential Functions
-Consistently implements sterile techniques using a barrier microisolator cage system.
-Tracks animal health and notify supervisors and animal care staff of observations.
-Keeps records of animal mortalities.
-Maintains records such as animal inventory, Animal Husbandry, and Room Maintenance Records for each assigned room.
-Reports all facility and environmental issues to the animal technician supervisor.
-Attends staff and educational meetings as scheduled by supervisory staff.

High School Diploma or Equivalent required

Previous experience with Animals 0-1 year preferred

- Detail-oriented.
- Multitasking skills.

A weekend Zebrafish Feeder position is available in the Brigham and Women's Aquatics Facility, located in the Longwood Campus at 221 Longwood Ave.

The candidate will share responsibility for the weekend operations of a multiuser, 10,000 tank, state of the art Aquatics Facility under the general supervision of the Facility Manager and staff. Duties include zebrafish feeding, monitoring water conditions, colony health, stock maintenance and breeding, basic zebrafish experimental setups and upkeep of the facility. This position requires Saturday and Sunday feedings, often taking 3-4 hours per day. There may be opportunities for additional work throughout the week.

This opening is an ideal opportunity for local college students or recent graduates interested in a career in aquaculture, fish husbandry and/or biomedical research.

  • Provide appropriate daily husbandry (feeding, health evaluations/Tank exchanges)to Zebra fish and maintenance of the Zebra fish facilities (equipment and facility sanitation)
  • Perform daily food culture and inventory of feed supplies
  • Provide zebrafish care, including maintenance and breeding of relevant fish lines for facility stocks and facility users
  • Provide daily maintenance and care of zebrafish embryos in Facility incubators
  • Perform routine and non-routine facility maintenance
  • Perform water quality analysis of quarantine and main room systems
  • Perform husbandry duties along with Facility users
  • Assist Facility users with routine Facility operations and occasional experiments
  • Any other Facility related duties as assigned by the Facility Manager and Co-directors and Administrative Director
  • Saturday and Sunday AM hours are required to perform weekend feeding duties.
