The Yard Superintendent receives and releases containers in and out of the facility based on customer agreements. Guaranteeing quality, security, safety, and efficiency in accordance with relevant operational and technical parameters. This position serves as the first-line supervisor of the operations management team.



  • Ensures and maintains a safe, productive, and efficient work environment.
  • Responsible for the direction and supervision of non-union and union workers, which includes hiring, discipline, and termination decisions.
  • Manages and oversees safety standards and ensures PPE is worn at all times by personnel.
  • Ensures availability of equipment required for timely completion of scheduled yard operations, and that staff and equipment are fully utilized, optimizes resource utilization and uptime to meet the economic performance indicators, and assists as necessary with other required tasks in order to turn trucks around in a reasonable timeframe.
  • Plans, designs, and implements yard arrangements.
  • Enforces productivity levels by working with truck drivers/customers, making multiple rounds within the storage facility operation, and conducting follow-up assessments prior to shift end.
  • Completes various reports and forms, such as yard inventories and safety summaries.
  • Enforces and follows plans, requirements, and orders.
  • Responsible for investigating and reporting damages and liabilities to the appropriate management and authorities.
  • Serves as a key coordinator between all parties, truck operators, customers, and coworkers.
  • Other duties as required.


  • High school diploma or equivalent experience working in management.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Extensive heavy yard machinery operating knowledge.
  • Thorough knowledge of principles of storage facility operations.
  • Experience with computerized operating systems.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively with truckers, management, and other staff.
  • Knowledge of safety and accident prevention codes and regulations
  • Required to observe all safety and health requirements for storage facility environments.



Supervisory Responsibilities: No
Work environment:


  • Must be able to work in rotating shifts, days, evenings, and nights.
  • Must be able to work in extreme outdoor temperatures of hot and cold, extremely dusty conditions, and occasionally, conditions of high levels of noise.
  • The ability to work in an environment that may be hazardous to persons unable to see and hear fast-moving equipment.
  • The ability to drive 10%.
