What to Expect

Consider before submitting an application:
This position is expected to start around August 2026 and continue through the entire Fall term (i.e. through December 2026) or into Spring 2027 if available. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships.

International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

About the Team
Tesla is looking for a highly motivated engineer able to accelerate the transition to renewable energy. Battery materials manufacturing at large scale presents a distinct challenge.

This internship will focus on: project execution as well as process development and improvement acrossa Cathode Manufacturing plant.

These efforts are designed to identify new processes or equipment to support current production improvements as well as scope out next generation technologies for future expansions. The success of these efforts depends on the ability to properly identify root causes of issues and propose realistic and applicable solutions that scale to full production needs. You will join a team focused on cathode manufacturing and development. You will assist in the day-to-day needs of the Cathode Design team as well as work closely with a senior engineer on a project highly focused on process or equipment improvement. Work will also include working closely with operations, controls and maintenance resources to support the Cathode manufacturing plant as needed.


What You'll Do
  • Interface with internal area team on production improvement initiatives
  • Design and execute trials in the process space and analyze resulting data
  • Build highly detailed scopes of work for potential equipment installs as required
  • Interface with external vendors to identify potential future equipment needs for expansions or retrofits

What You'll Bring
  • Progress toward a bachelor's degree in process, material science, chemical or applicable engineering disciplines.
  • Evidence of exceptional ability, including a strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and demonstrated ability to leverage this understanding to solve challenging technical problems.
  • Detail oriented with strong record-keeping and communication skills.
  • Previous internship in a production scale environment is preferred
  • Previous work with powder handling equipment highly preferred
  • Ability to read a process flow diagram and understand full system requirements and how they relate to individual equipment design is critical.
  • Experience with pneumatic conveyance highly desired.
  • Willingness to be in the field and work side by side with operations highly desired.
