Position Summary

UNM's Clinical & Translational Science Center (CTSC), as a member of the national NIH CTSA Consortium, is committed to bettering health by streamlining science, and improving the conduct, quality, and dissemination of research from laboratories to clinical practices, and out into communities. CTSC's vision is to catalyze scientific discovery into improved health by enabling high quality clinical and translational research (CTR)-locally, regionally, and nationally. The CTSC provides facilities and resources to enable investigators to successfully conduct their clinical research and further their research careers. We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our dynamic team as the Sr Program Manager overseeing special projects and high-level administrative and strategic functions for CTSC Leadership.

In 2025, the CTSC received NIH funding for renewal of its CTSA and formed the Southwest Center for Advancing Clinical and Translational Innovation (SW CACTI), which is a partnership between the University of New Mexico and the University of Arizona. SW CACTI is committed to using our capabilities to foster collaborative research efforts throughout New Mexico and Arizona. We seek to reduce barriers to clinical and translational science for both investigators and participants so that we can serve the entire research community.

The Sr Project Manager of special projects will support large CTSC initiatives in translational science, which include SW CACTI's annual internal advisory board and bi-annual external advisory board meetings. The ideal candidate will have both scientific expertise and be a detail-oriented person with project management skills.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Manage and coordinate large advisory boards with guidance from leadership.
  • Catalyze new efforts with direction from CTSC Leadership to coordinate and oversee new strategic initiatives.
  • Using project management skills, design and implement systems and processes to establish and maintain accurate record keeping and task delegation for CTSC's Leadership Team. Ensures accurate and complete data is collected for CTSC Leadership and prepare complex reports, if needed.
  • Establish and participate in development, implementation and maintenance of CTSC policies, objectives, short-and long-range planning; develop and implements projects and programs to assist in accomplishment of established CTSC goals.
  • Manage and coordinate the daily high-level administrative components of CTSC's Special Projects.
  • Perform additional project management, record keeping and reporting, and administrative duties as assigned.

TERM APPOINTMENT; FUNDING AVAILABLE THROUGH 06/30/2027; CONTINUANCE BEYOND THAT DATE SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY OF ADDITIONAL FUNDING.

Conditions of Employment

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications
  • MS or a PhD in a health-related and/or social science field (e.g. medical anthropology, health economics, sociology of health)
  • Familiarity and prior usage with project management tools
  • Direct experience in health research
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Experience managing scientific programs and projects, including research operations
  • Experience with administrative, secretarial, and program support activities and ability to provide direct high-level administrative support
  • Experience preparing and managing federal grants, which includes knowledge of federal guidelines for grant funding and research compliance, and experience developing and implementing strategic plans
  • Experience examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing/implementing new programs, strategies, and procedures
