Position description

Sports Orthopaedic Surgeon - ACADEMIC POSITION

UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SAN FRANCISCO

Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor Level

The candidate will provide comprehensive orthopaedic sports medicine care for adolescents, and young adults with musculoskeletal injuries and conditions, including ligamentous knee injuries, patellofemoral instability, shoulder instability, hip preservation pathology, and sports-related overuse conditions. Candidates with experience in advanced sports medicine procedures such as hip arthroscopy, complex knee ligament reconstruction, cartilage restoration, meniscus preservation/transplantation, shoulder instability surgery, and limb realignment procedures are encouraged to apply.

This position is intended to support the continued growth of UCSF Sports Medicine and expand access to specialized sports care throughout Northern California. The selected candidate will collaborate closely with the UCSF Women's Sports Medicine Center, pediatric orthopaedics, the hip preservation team, primary care sports medicine physicians, athletic trainers, and regional outreach programs supporting youth and high school athletics.

The selected candidate will be appointed at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank in the HS Clinical, Clinical X, or In-Residence faculty series, commensurate with experience and academic accomplishments.

The incumbent will participate in clinical care, teaching, and scholarly activities at UCSF clinical sites. Responsibilities include resident, fellow, and medical student education, participation in division didactics, and contributions to clinical research, quality improvement, clinical innovation, and outcomes-based scholarship.

Requirements:

Applicant must have all requirements met by time of hire:



  • A valid California medical license
  • MD or DO degree from an accredited program
  • Completed an accredited Orthopaedic Surgery residency program
  • Completed fellowship training in Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery and/or Orthopaedic Sports Medicine
  • Board certified or board eligible in Orthopaedic Surgery
  • Applicant's materials must list current and/or pending qualifications upon submission


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience in the orthopaedic care of the adult and adolescent athlete
  • Experience with sports medicine procedures involving shoulder instability, ACL reconstruction, hip arthroscopy, patellofemoral instability, cartilage restoration, or multiligament knee reconstruction
  • Demonstrated commitment to clinical education and mentorship
  • Interest in regional outreach, community engagement, and youth/high school sports coverage
  • Interest in clinical research, outcomes research, or clinical innovation initiatives.


The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5. The minimum base salary for this position is $154,700. This position is governed by the UC Health Sciences Compensation Plan, APM-670 Apm 670), which allows for eligibility for negotiated additional compensation. As such, the total negotiated salary (including base and negotiated components) can be significantly higher and can range up to $900,000 depending on individual qualifications, clinical productivity, and other factors assessed at the time of offer.
