Job Summary

Performs highly skilled maintenance and repair to automobiles, light/medium truck and or equipment maintenance and repair. This position will interact on a regular basis with: Faculty and staff. This position typically will advise and counsel: Faculty and staff. This position will supervise: N/A

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Perform diagnostics and troubleshoot utilizing automated diagnostic tools.

Job Duty 2 -
Maintain major component repairs, electrical systems controls, and preventative maintenance services to all Georgia Tech (GT) state owned automobiles, trucks, and equipment.

Job Duty 3 -
Ensure the safe and proper operation of tools and power equipment adhering to prescribed safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Job Duty 4 -
Road tests vehicles and trucks upon completion of repairs to ensure proper functioning and safe operating conditions.

Job Duty 5 -
Perform inspections on automotive and mechanical equipment to identify repair needs and provide accurate cost estimates.

Job Duty 6 -
Work with Parts Specialist regarding shop inventory and equipment. Assist with department asset inventory and reconciliation.

Job Duty 7 -
Diagnose, repair, and overhaul vehicle systems including brakes, ignition, electrical, transmission, differentials, and hydraulic systems.

Job Duty 8 -
Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
High school diploma, GED Certificate or Vocational School Diploma

Other Required Qualifications
This position requires possession of a valid and appropriate Georgia Driver's License at the time of appointment, which must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.

Required Experience
Four to five years of job related experience

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications
Two year Automotive Technician certification from an accredited technical institution; Certifications from National Institute for Automotive Excellence (NIASE); Certification as A & B operator for underground tanks; Skills preferred for this job include previous fleet experience; working knowledge of records management procedure; working knowledge of underground tanks

  • ASE certifications (e.g., A1A8 or equivalent); ability to obtain within 18 months.
  • Experience with medium- and heavy-duty trucks, low-speed electric vehicles (LSVs), or specialized fleet equipment.
  • Familiarity with fleet management software and maintenance tracking systems.
  • Experience working in a public-sector, university, or large institutional fleet environment.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

SKILLS
This job requires knowledge of fleet management principles, practices, and procedures; intermediate level of business mathematics; ability to effectively communicate in English, both orally and in writing; ability to utilize personal computers, standard office equipment, and standard software applications; ability to organize work, establish priorities, meet establish deadlines, and follow up on assignments with minimum direction.

  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs and asset lifecycle management.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize workload effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and compliance.
