Job Description

The University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL), a proud member of NCAA Division II and the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), invites applications for the position of Head Baseball Coach. UMSL seeks an innovative, energetic, and student-centered leader to guide Triton Baseball and build upon the program's tradition of excellence.

The Head Baseball Coach serves as the chief architect of the baseball program and is responsible for providing visionary leadership in all aspects of the program, including competitive success, recruiting, player development, academic achievement, compliance, fundraising, alumni engagement, budget management, and staff supervision. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to lead a program positioned for success in one of NCAA Division II's most competitive conferences while developing student-athletes for achievement both on and off the field.

Program Leadership and Competitive Excellence

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for all aspects of the baseball program.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive plan for sustained competitive success within the GLVC and at the national level.
  • Foster a culture of integrity, accountability, sportsmanship, and championship-level performance.
  • Establish clear expectations for student-athletes and staff that align with the mission and values of UMSL Athletics.
  • Represent the baseball program and university with professionalism and integrity.

Recruiting and Roster Management

  • Lead all recruiting efforts to identify, evaluate, and attract academically and athletically qualified student-athletes.
  • Develop and maintain strong recruiting pipelines with high school, junior college, club, and summer baseball programs.
  • Manage roster planning and retention strategies that support long-term program success.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to recruiting student-athletes who will thrive academically, socially, and athletically at UMSL.

Coaching and Student-Athlete Development

  • Plan and conduct practices, training sessions, and competitions that promote individual and team development.
  • Teach and develop baseball fundamentals, advanced skills, strategy, and leadership.
  • Promote academic achievement, personal growth, sportsmanship, and overall student-athlete well-being.
  • Support student-athletes in achieving their educational, athletic, and career goals.

Compliance and Administration

  • Ensure strict adherence to NCAA, GLVC, University of Missouri System, and institutional policies and regulations.
  • Monitor student-athlete academic progress and eligibility requirements.
  • Manage all program operations, including scheduling, travel, equipment, camps, and budget oversight.
  • Prepare and maintain required reports and documentation.

Staff Leadership and External Engagement

  • Recruit, supervise, mentor, and evaluate assistant coaches and support personnel.
  • Collaborate with athletic department staff, alumni, donors, and community stakeholders to advance program goals.
  • Support fundraising initiatives, alumni engagement efforts, camps, clinics, and community outreach activities.
  • Serve as an ambassador for UMSL Athletics throughout the region and beyond.
Shift

Variable dependent on recruiting, practices and games.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in related/relevant area or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 6 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Collegiate coaching experience, preferably at the NCAA Division II level.
  • Previous head coaching experience with demonstrated success in recruiting, player development, and program administration.
  • Demonstrated success in NCAA Division I, II, NAIA, or junior college recruiting and player development.
  • Experience supervising staff, managing budgets, and leading successful athletic programs.
  • Record of fostering academic success and holistic student-athlete development.
