Description

The Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology is seeking a motivatedStaff Research Associate 2to support translational cardiovascular research focused on the role of the autonomic nervous system in heart disease and cardiac arrhythmias. The position will contribute to studies involving human and preclinical models, including the collection of electrophysiologic and neural data, surgical procedures, and tissue-based analyses.

Primary responsibilities include performing small and large animal surgical procedures, monitoring animals following cardiovascular interventions, supporting small animal husbandry (including breeding and genotyping), analyzing research data, and maintaining laboratory supplies and equipment. Candidates should have experience with surgical procedures in either animal models or human clinical settings and a strong interest in cardiovascular research.

Hourly range: $31.23-$50.24

Qualifications

Required:

  • Skills to perform surgical and technical procedures in a timely and accurate manner
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others
  • BS degree in biochemistry, physiology, biology or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Skills in basic computer use, Microsoft excel, office, PowerPoint
  • Skill to perform surgical procedures in a lab setting on animals

Preferred:

  • Ability to work on routine assignments with minimal supervision
  • Previous wet lab experience
  • Knowledge of immunostaining or immunofluorescence
  • Knowledge of tissue preparation and specimen handling
  • Skills in preparing buffers, solutions and reagents
  • Skills in large and small animal handling and surgical procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to keep accurate records
