Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position will supervise the Alternate Center for Education (ACE) and Time Out rooms to assist students as they process after an incident which necessitates their use of either the ACE or Time Out Room and to accurately document each such use Will also assist in managing inappropriate behavior in the educational setting. Acts as a role model for students.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Responds to and encourages student's appropriate verbal and non-verbal interactions with adults and students.

2. Conveys a positive attitude in interactions with students.

3. Uses appropriate intervention methods when student behavior is inappropriate.

4. Makes self available to all students by physical proximity as well as by visual contact.

5. Actively moves around ACE to facilitate students' learning.

6. Uses positive language for redirection.

7. Encourages students to make choices appropriate to classroom and school environment.

8. Demonstrates the ability to manage student behavior during instructional interaction.

9. Provides positive feedback to students.

10. Develops awareness of each student's special needs.

11. Demonstrates awareness for each student's safety and whereabouts.

12. Respects confidentiality of information.

13. Attends and participates in staffings, meetings and training as directed.

14. Assists in maintaining required behavior management plans by collecting data.

15. Provides feedback to colleagues and supervisor in an appropriate and professional manner.

16. Assists in keeping necessary updated records, including HPR, Incident Reports, ACE use.

17. Provides all necessary documentation to parents/guardians and district personnel regarding each student's use of ACE and Time Out Rooms.

18. Utilizes knowledge and skills related to crisis intervention and verbal de-escalation in order to provide a safe environment for students, visitors and staff.

19. Will work on residential and/or inpatient units when school is not in session (i.e., holidays, breaks, summer, etc.). This may include working a shift other than a day shift as well as working weekend shifts.

20. Assists in supervising classrooms as needed or directed by the Principal.

21. Any other duties as assigned by the Principal.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Projects a positive image of The Pavilion by being courteous, helpful, friendly, and professional in relationships with patients, visitors, and co-workers.

2. Assures compliance with federal, state, and organizational confidentiality regulations.

3. Responds to a "Support Code" in a therapeutic, appropriate manner as prescribed in the annual TCI inservice.

4. Maintains CPR and TCI certification, as well as OSHA annual inservice requirement.

5. Provides case management and other clinical services, as necessary.

6. Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelors Degree preferred.

Experience: Must be at least 21 years of age. One year experience working with youth who are categorized as Behavioral Disordered preferred.
