Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Dental Assistant within the Office of Clinical Affairs-Extramural Clinics at the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine.

The Dental Assistant is responsible for the daily routine operations of a site for the Extramural Clinics. In this role, the Dental Assistant will assist the dentist during examinations and treatment of patients and assist dental hygienist, if needed. This position also includes performing both chairside and desk-side duties. Additionally, the Dental Assistant performs administrative, sterilizing, and miscellaneous tasks, including but not limited to inventory, supply ordering, equipment maintenance, laboratory duties, and radiation badge maintenance. This position also includes covering as a dental assistant as needed within the Extramural Clinics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Prepares room for each patient, which includes setting up instruments and supplies.
  • Seats patients, adjust chairs & light, drape patients with protective covers.
  • Takes and records vital signs on each patient at each appointment and update medical history. Obtains doctors' signatures/initials.
  • Passes instruments to doctor during examination and treatment of patients.
  • Charts results of doctors' examination.
  • Prepares dental materials for the dentist's use.
  • Maintains patient's records in accordance with Quality Assurance Guidelines.
  • Pours models, trims and evaluates the quality of diagnostic casts.
  • Give post-operative instructions to patients and dismiss them.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Graduation from an accredited Dental Assisting Program.
Certifications/Licenses

  • Certification as a Dental Assistant (CDA) in the State of New Jersey.
  • Valid Dental Radiologic Technology License issued by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.

  • CPR Certification.
