What you'll be doing...

  • Manage the compliance for all assigned state and local property tax returns ensuring processes are well documented and accurate analysis and support are provided.

  • Manage the valuation for all assigned states and ensure valuation support is accurate and useful and team resources are allocated appropriately to assist with negotiations.

  • Manage, supervise and mentor any assigned property tax staff.

  • Manage tax payments to ensure that payments are made timely and that internal policies and procedures are followed.

  • Ensure all SOX & internal controls are reviewed regularly and followed for all compliance functions, make recommendations for change as needed.

  • Ensure any risk that falls outside of SOX & internal controls are reviewed and mitigated appropriately.

  • Develop & lead tax strategies to reduce overall property tax.

  • Review monthly accrual analysis & assist in determining annual budgetary needs as required.

  • Manage inquiries, audits and litigation related to assigned state and local filings.

  • Provide property tax advice and guidance to Verizon management and personnel through subject matter expertise in interpretation of existing laws, regulations, court cases, tax returns, and assessments.

  • Foster and maintain open communication and working relationships with team, tax department customers and state and local taxing authorities.

  • Manage high volumes of data utilizing Property Tax software, Excel, Alteryx, generative AI solutions and other pertinent tools.

What we're looking for...

You're highly motivated, technical, and detail oriented. You have a track record of success working both individually and as part of a team. You are a strong communicator, both written and verbally. Your analytical skills are top-notch, and you're able to use your knowledge to plan effectively. You build positive relationships naturally, and excel in all environments, including those which include cross-functional work.

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's or four or more years of work experience

  • Four or more years of relevant work experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.

  • Four plus years of multistate property tax or other related experience.

  • Demonstrated experience with Excel.

  • Demonstrated experience with Alteryx, Tableau, Python or other analytics/automation, and generative AI.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Finance, Accounting

  • A CPA.

  • Public accounting experience, especially Big 4.

  • Demonstrated experience with PTMS.

  • People leader experience.

Where you'll be workingIn this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes working from home and a minimum of three days per week in the office, which will be set by your manager. The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part-time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours. The annual salary range for the location(s) listed on this job requisition based on a full-time schedule is: $92,500.00 - $161,000.00.
