Job Description

Position Summary

The University of Missouri Department of Athletics is seeking a Building Maintenance Mechanic to assist with the inspection, maintenance, repair, and installation of building systems and equipment to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of University facilities. This position performs skilled work involving plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, and general building maintenance systems. This person responds to service requests, performs preventative and corrective maintenance, supports renovation and repair projects, and assists in maintaining facility infrastructure in compliance with applicable safety standards, codes, and University requirements.

Key Responsibilities

1. Building Systems Maintenance and Repair (40%)

* Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on building systems and infrastructure.
* Repair and maintain plumbing systems including domestic water, sewer, drains, water softeners, restroom facilities, water coolers, faucets, fixtures, and associated equipment.
* Clean drains, remove obstructions, repair leaks, and replace damaged piping and plumbing components.
* Repair and maintain building accessories and equipment, including tables, chairs, shelving, charts, and other facility furnishings.
* Respond to service requests and troubleshoot operational issues affecting facility functionality.

2. Installation, Construction, and Equipment Modifications (20%)

* Install, modify, and repair plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, and related building systems.
* Cut, thread, join, and assemble piping and mechanical components using appropriate tools and techniques.
* Perform soldering, brazing, welding, and fabrication work as required.
* Drill openings and make structural modifications necessary to complete installations and repairs.
* Insulate, paint, and protect piping and equipment as needed.

3. Inventory, Procurement, and Administrative Support (15%)

* Identify replacement parts and materials required for maintenance and repair activities.
* Prepare purchase requests and provide recommendations regarding equipment and material purchases.
* Assist with inventory management and maintaining adequate stock levels of commonly used parts and supplies.
* Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and service documentation.

4. HVAC and Refrigeration Systems (10%)

* Repair and maintain heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment ranging from single-room units to complete building systems.
* Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair air handling systems, ventilation equipment, and climate control components.
* Maintain and repair refrigeration equipment, including diagnosing system issues, recharging refrigerants as authorized, and ensuring proper electrical and mechanical operation.
* Monitor system performance and recommend repairs or replacement of equipment as necessary.
* Assist in maintaining system efficiency and operational reliability.

5. Safety, Tools, and Worksite Management (10%)

* Safely operate, maintain, and store tools, equipment, and materials used in maintenance operations.
* Adhere to applicable safety procedures, regulations, and industry standards.
* Maintain clean and organized work areas before, during, and after maintenance activities.
* Return equipment and materials to designated storage locations and restore work areas to their original condition.
* Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and participate in required safety training.

6. Other Duties (5%)

* Perform additional duties as assigned by Athletics administration.
* Ensure compliance with University, NCAA, and SEC rules, policies, and procedures.

Shift

8AM-5PM, Monday-Friday

Minimum Qualifications

* A high school degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.
* Four years of experience in general building maintenance, including heating/air conditioning, electrical water treatment, plumbing, etc., is necessary.
* Ability to read blueprints and interpret diagrams is necessary.
* A valid driver's license may be required for certain positions.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $17.90 - $24.00 per hour

Grade: GGS E
