Position Summary

The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance throughout the facility and Tiny Home units under the direction of the Program Director / Program Manager. This position ensures that all buildings, equipment, systems, and housing units remain safe, functional, and in good working order. The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for identifying maintenance needs, completing repairs in a timely manner, and ensuring that equipment, fixtures, and facility assets are maintained in a safe operating condition to support participant safety, program operations, and regulatory compliance.

Essential Functions



  • Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance on Tiny Home units, buildings, equipment, and site infrastructure.
  • Repair and replace door locks, windows, screens, emergency exit hatches, flooring, shelving, beds, and other unit components.
  • Install, repair, and maintain heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment.
  • Perform basic carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and general maintenance duties within the scope of training and experience.
  • Conduct regular inspections of units, common areas, offices, restrooms, laundry facilities, fencing, gates, lighting, and other site assets.
  • Identify, document, and promptly address safety hazards and maintenance deficiencies.
  • Complete unit turnover repairs and prepare units for new participant occupancy.
  • Respond to maintenance requests in a timely and professional manner
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, and maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, work orders, inventory records, and repair documentation.
  • Assist with inventory management of maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment.
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors as directed by management.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable health, safety, fire, and building standards.
  • Support emergency response efforts and assist with facility-related emergencies as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, staff, participants, vendors, and contractors.
  • Follow all Salvation Army policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support program operations.


Working Conditions

Ability to walk, stand, bend squat climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to be able to lift to 25lbs. Ability to grasp, push, and pull objects such as file cabinet drawers and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone.

Minimum Qualifications



  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in building maintenance, facilities maintenance, construction, or related field.
  • Valid California Class C Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations, workplace safety standards, and applicable Health Department requirements.
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, and/or substance use disorders preferred, but not required.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification required or ability to obtain certification
  • Must be TB-cleared prior to the start date.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, HVAC, and general building maintenance practices.
  • Ability to safely operate manual and power tools and equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions and perform the physical demands associated with maintenance work.
  • Knowledge of building maintenance principles, practices, and procedures.

  • Knowledge of basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, HVAC, and general repair techniques.
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs and facility upkeep.
  • Knowledge of proper use and maintenance of hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
  • Knowledge of inventory control and maintenance supply management.
  • Knowledge of emergency response procedures and hazard identification.
  • Understanding of confidentiality requirements and professional boundaries within a social services environment.

  • Ability to perform preventative maintenance and identify potential issues before they become major repairs.
  • Customer service skills and the ability to interact professionally with participants, staff, and vendors.

Qualifications
Experience
