Responsibilities & Expectations:

As an IPS Intern, you'll gain hands-on experience in the disassembly and assembly of AC/DC motors, generators, gearboxes, and related equipment. You'll use innovative, analytical, and problem-solving skills to repair a variety of industrial equipment while supporting our culture of continuous improvement.

We'll provide on-the-job training with tasks that align with the FAME program curriculum throughout the semester. Your responsibilities may include:

  • Cleaning, Stripping, and Painting: Operate steam cleaners, parts washers, and sandblasters to clean internal and external parts. You'll also paint repaired motors before they are shipped to customers.
  • Diagnosing and Repairing: Help diagnose incoming units, then disassemble, repair, and assemble them for shipment. This includes performing mechanical rebuilds on rotating equipment like electric motors, pumps, and fans.
  • Measurements and Testing: Use various tools such as dial indicators, micrometers, multi-meters, and meggers to measure and record data. This includes winding resistance, RTD and heater resistances, and mechanical fits and clearances.
  • Team Collaboration: Participate in daily operational discussions about customer products.
  • Safety First: Consistently adhere to all safety procedures and wear the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE).

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Demonstrate ability to correctly fill out and consistently follow proper procedures
  • Operate hand tools in a safe and effective manner
  • Ability to understand, perform and retain various job-related training, operational, and safety procedures
  • Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods of time
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry items up to 50 lbs

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • 1-5 years of AC/DC motor experience preferred
  • Able to perform basic math functions
  • Capability to diagnose and repair industrial electric motors, fans, pumps, gearboxes, and other rotating equipment
  • Able to understand, perform, and retain various job-related training, operational, and safety procedures
  • Excellent technical and mechanical skills
  • Self-starter and highly motivated person
