Job Description
General Purpose of Job: The Operational Excellence team supports the University of Michigan Health Regional Network. The position reports to the Regional Manager of Operational Excellence and is responsible for driving operational improvement initiatives throughout the organization. The operational excellence residency will apply, teach, and coach the organization on process improvement methodologies, tools, and techniques. Operational Excellence team members are responsible for instilling a culture of managing for daily improvement through departments and patient care settings to drive consistent, efficient care delivery. This role collaborates with leadership throughout the organization to coordinate rapid improvement events, manage and monitor executive driven metrics, while driving meaningful change to improve the care for our patients. This position is a limited term, 9-month program. Extension of that role and duration is at the discretion of executive leadership. Essential Duties
- Utilize process improvement, project management, and change leadership methodologies to drive, implement, and sustain process improvements throughout the University of Michigan Health Regional Network.
- Partner with assigned operational and clinical areas to identify, guide, coach, implement, and measure departmental improvement needs, in alignment with strategic goals and objectives.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Provides insight to key stakeholders and project sponsors by developing project goals, setting the prioritization of deliverables, discussing the involvement of business processes (e.g. project change management, communication), and facilitating decisions necessary for project delivery.
- Partners with Senior Operational Excellence Specialists and executives on complex, executive initiatives to champion projects, drive results, and promote a continuous improvement culture.
- Enthusiastically embraces a customer-oriented focus in process improvements and determines key drivers to provide an exceptional patient experience.
Job Requirements
| General Requirements |
* Lean certification, Six Sigma certification, quality improvement certification, financial professional certification and/or current clinical licensure, preferred |
| Work Experience |
* Past relevant experience in continuous improvement, operational excellence, or healthcare related roles preferred. * Experience with conducting continuous improvement training, preferred. * Experience with analytical tools for data analysis/mathematical modelling is a plus, preferred. |
| Education |
* Bachelor's degree in business administration, healthcare administration, engineering, clinical or a related field. * Master's degree in healthcare administration, business, administration, engineering, or a clinical discipline, preferred |
| Specialized Knowledge and Skills |
* Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills. * Excellent written and oral communication skills. * Ability to promote openness to change using both evidence and influencing skills. * Knowledge and strength with Microsoft Office applications. * Ability to remain positive and persistent in the face of resistance to change |
