ualr.edu/library Summary of Job Duties:The Extra Help Assistant/Weekend Peer Supervisor serves as a member of the library Operations staff, and is primarily responsible for providing customer service assistance to a diverse group of library patrons, maintaining a high level of professionalism. The Weekend Peer Supervisor has a higher level of responsibility than the typical Peer Consultant, as this person opens/closes the building, and supervises operations. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy. Qualifications:

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and other computer applications.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Supervisory Experience;
  • Experience in a library environment.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Open/close the library building for weekend shifts;
  • Staff the service desk, answer directional, routine circulation/reference questions, and provide basic support in the us of library resources;
  • Supervises peer consultants;
  • Assist library users with equipment such as computers, microform readers, and printers/copiers;
  • Check materials/equipment in and out using the Alma/Primo integrated library system;
  • Maintain poise when confronted with complaints, disputes, or problem patrons;
  • Maintain awareness and reports any situations that may require the attention of full-time staff, Public Safety, or Facilities Management;
  • Attend and actively participates in scheduled training sessions and staff meetings;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability and willingness to work evening and weekend shifts;
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills;
  • Ability to exhibit patience, empathy, and enthusiasm when working with patrons;
  • Ability to understand and read Library of Congress (LOC) call number sequences;
  • Ability to work and communicate with library patrons and staff effectively;
  • Minimal knowledge of computers and their applications;
  • Aptitude for learning new technologies;
  • Ability to work in a diverse and inclusive environment.
