Position Overview

As a Senior Engagement Manager within our Medical Affairs practice, you will lead complex consulting engagements for pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients, ensuring an exceptional client experience and delivering high-quality, actionable recommendations.

You will serve as a trusted advisor to Medical Affairs leaders, helping clients develop and execute medical strategies that address evidence gaps, support scientific exchange, inform clinical practice, and improve outcomes for patients. You will lead multidisciplinary consulting teams, oversee engagements from initiation through final delivery, and coach Associates and Consultants in their professional development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Medical Affairs consulting engagements from initiation through completion, including defining project scope, developing workplans, managing timelines, and ensuring the quality of all deliverables.
  • Build trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders and develop a thorough understanding of their scientific objectives, therapeutic areas, product portfolios, organizational needs, and operating environments.
  • Develop Medical Affairs strategies across the product lifecycle, including early asset planning, launch readiness, integrated evidence planning, scientific communications, field medical strategy, and lifecycle management.
  • Support the development and assessment of medical plans, evidence-generation strategies, publication plans, scientific narratives, stakeholder engagement models, and Medical Affairs operating capabilities.
  • Design and oversee primary and secondary research involving healthcare professionals, scientific experts, patients, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Analyze clinical, scientific, and market data to identify evidence gaps, unmet needs, stakeholder perspectives, and opportunities to strengthen Medical Affairs strategy and execution.
  • Translate complex scientific and business information into clear insights, compelling narratives, executive-level presentations, and practical recommendations.
  • Present findings and recommendations to senior Medical Affairs leaders, facilitate strategic discussions, and build alignment around key decisions and priorities.
  • Partner with cross-functional client stakeholders including Clinical Development, HEOR, Market Access, Regulatory, and Commercial teams while maintaining appropriate Medical Affairs independence and compliance standards.
  • Guide and supervise Associates and Consultants by providing clear direction, constructive feedback, and ongoing coaching.
  • Identify project risks, resolve issues proactively, and ensure engagements are delivered on time, within scope, and to a consistently high standard.
  • Contribute to the growth of the Medical Affairs practice by supporting proposal development, identifying follow-on opportunities, and strengthening client relationships.

Essential Requirements:

  • Master's degree or equivalent international qualification-in life sciences, medicine, pharmacy, public health, health economics, business, or a related field.
  • At least four years of relevant consulting experience, with significant experience serving pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or other life sciences clients.
  • Demonstrated experience leading consulting engagements, managing project teams, and overseeing multiple workstreams.
  • Strong knowledge of the Medical Affairs function and its role across the pharmaceutical product lifecycle.
  • Experience in one or more relevant areas, such as medical strategy, evidence generation, launch planning, scientific communications, publications, field medical excellence, stakeholder engagement, or Medical Affairs capability development.
  • Ability to interpret clinical and scientific information and translate complex analyses into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Strong client-management, executive communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, develop, and motivate consulting team members.
  • Understanding of the regulatory and compliance considerations governing Medical Affairs activities and scientific exchange.
  • Advanced scientific or clinical degree, such as a PhD, PharmD, MD, or equivalent preferred
  • Experience as a Medical Affairs or life sciences strategy consultant within a leading management consulting or specialized life sciences consulting firm.
  • Experience across multiple therapeutic areas and stages of the product lifecycle.
  • Experience working directly within a pharmaceutical or biotechnology Medical Affairs organization.
  • Experience supporting business development, proposal creation, or account growth.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $210,000 to $258,000. The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high of the Syneos Health range for this position. Actual salary will vary based on various factors such as the candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. In addition, some positions may include eligibility to earn commissions/bonus based on company and / or individual performance.
