Shift: Mon-Thur 8pm-5:30am and Fri 8pm-4:30am
We are seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Technician II to join our Salt Lake City HSE team. This role is ideal for an experienced HSE professional who enjoys working across diverse environments, influencing safe behaviors, and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.
As an HSE Technician II, you will support and enhance health, safety, and environmental programs while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards. You will partner with employees and leaders throughout the site to identify hazards, mitigate risks, deliver training, investigate incidents, and drive sustainable safety improvements.
Position Summary
The HSE Technician II serves as a key member of the Health, Safety & Environmental team and supports the implementation and maintenance of site HSE programs, policies, and procedures. Building upon foundational HSE experience, this position contributes to hazard identification, incident prevention, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical knowledge of occupational health and safety practices, a commitment to injury and illness prevention, and the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate across all levels of the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Program Support
- Implement and monitor health, safety, and environmental programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
- Conduct routine workplace inspections and environmental assessments, documenting findings and recommending corrective actions.
- Perform Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and risk assessments to identify and mitigate workplace hazards.
- Support emergency preparedness activities, drills, and response initiatives.
Incident Investigation & Reporting
- Assist with and conduct incident and near-miss investigations, including data collection, root cause analysis, and documentation.
- Collect, analyze, and summarize injury and incident data for Safety Committee meetings and leadership reporting.
- Support tracking and closure of corrective and preventive actions.
Training & Employee Engagement
- Deliver new employee safety orientations and targeted occupational health and safety training programs.
- Facilitate safety training sessions for employees, teams, and business partners.
- Participate in safety committees and promote employee engagement in safety initiatives.
- Provide guidance and informal mentorship to HSE Technician I team members.
Environmental Compliance
- Support environmental compliance activities, including monitoring practices, maintaining documentation, and assisting with permit and reporting requirements.
- Maintain site chemical inventories and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) systems for accuracy and accessibility.
- Support sustainability and environmental improvement initiatives across the site.
Equipment & Documentation Management
- Inspect and maintain safety equipment, including:
- Fire extinguishers
- Safety showers and eyewash stations
- First aid kits
- Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs)
- Maintain safety records, databases, reports, and documentation in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with company quality standards and procedures.
Continuous Improvement
- Partner with department leaders and continuous improvement teams to identify and implement safety-related process improvements.
- Support initiatives that strengthen the site's proactive safety culture and operational excellence objectives.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 6 years of HSE experience, including at least 3 years performing OSHA-related HSE duties in a manufacturing environment
- Experience developing, preparing, and delivering training presentations to individuals and groups.
- Experience conducting workplace safety inspections, investigations, and risk assessments.
Licenses
- Valid Utah driver's license required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting environmental compliance programs.
- Familiarity with behavioral-based safety principles.
- Experience working in manufacturing, laboratory, clean room, or regulated environments.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies.

Working Conditions
This role may require work across multiple site environments, including:
- Office settings

Physical Requirements
- Ability to remain stationary (sitting or standing) for prolonged periods.
- Ability to ascend and descend stairs, ladders, and ramps.
- Ability to lift, move, and adjust objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to pass a respirator fit test.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and clean room garments when necessary.
Travel
- Minimal local travel between bioMerieux facilities within Salt Lake City, Utah.
- No regular domestic or international travel required.

The estimated wage range for this role based in Utah a is between $32.50 - 40.90. This role is eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and individual performance per bioMerieux's bonus program. This range may differ from ranges offered for similar positions elsewhere in the country given differences in cost of living. Actual compensation within this range is determined based on the successful candidate's experience and will be presented in writing at the time of the offer.
