The Division of Sculpture Dimensional Studies at the New York State College of Ceramics
(NYSCC), Alfred University, invites applications for the Theodore Randall International Chair in Art & Design, a distinguished artist residency and teaching appointment for the Spring 2027 semester ( classes begin: January 19 - May 3, 2027).

Established in 2007, the Randall Chair honors artist and educator Theodore Randall, whose vision was instrumental in shaping the School of A1t and Design at Alfred. This appointment is intended for established international artists residing outside the United States (non-U.S. citizens) whose work brings significant cultural perspective and global insight to the academic community.

The Division of Sculpture Dimensional Studies (SOS) is one of six divisions within a comprehensive and interdisciplinary program, supported by an active faculty and a highly engaged student body. SOS faculty represent a wide range of conceptual and technical approaches, fostering an expansive educational environment. Facilities support work across diverse media, including glass blowing and casting, fiber and mixed media, metal fabrication, foundry, neon, and light-based practices.

The selected Randall Chair will:

  • Teach one upper-level sculpture course aligned with their artistic practice
  • Mentor senior and graduate students in independent studio work
  • Deliver a public lecture or presentation
  • Present work in an informal exhibition at the conclusion of the residency
The position includes a private studio with 24-hour access, a research stipend, round-trip travel, housing, and a salary at $32,000.

The School of Art and Design at Alfred University is an accredited member of National Association of Schools of A1t and Design, with 33 full-time faculty serving approximately 500 students. Its open curriculum suppo1ts a dynamic and interdisciplinary approach to studio art, design, and art history. The NYSCC encompasses the School of Art and Design, the Inamori School of Engineering, and Scholes Library, continuing a legacy of innovation in art, design, and engineering since 1900.
