Department:Utility Services Department Organizational Unit: County Water and Wastewater Position Type:Permanent Full Time/Part Time:Full Time Open Until Filled. $21.23 to $23.35 hourly. Actual salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Central Area/Suntree/South Central WWTP. Work schedule is Monday through Friday 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and includes standby, overtime, and holidays as needed. Performs skilled crafts and trades work in the operation and routine maintenance of heavy equipment and may perform related manual labor. Employee may rotate among various pieces of equipment or may be permanently assigned to a specific piece of equipment. REQUIREMENTS: One (1) year of experience in the operation and routine maintenance of heavy equipment;ORsix (6) months of on-the-job training within the County in the operation of minor heavy equipment and must be able to achieve departmental standards for operating the equipment;OR successful completion of a six (6) month heavy equipment operator training program from an accredited school. Successful completion of coursework in heavy equipment operation at an accredited post-secondary school may be substituted on a year for year basis for a maximum of one (1) year (1,080 class hours [1 school year] = 1 year of experience; 120 class hours = 1 month of experience). Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted on a year for year basis. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess, orobtain prior to employment, a valid Florida Class B Commercial driver's license and maintain said license during the term of employment. A tanker endorsement is preferred. Must be able to pass a verbal proficiency test and effectively demonstrate the ability to safely operate one (1) of the following types of minor heavy equipment: Vacuum Truck, Fuel Truck, Compactor, Backhoe, Loader, Excavator, Roller, Dump Truck with Trailer, End Loader, and/or Mowing Tractor. Must possess or obtain within six (6) months of employment, a current Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Basic Flagger or higher certification and maintain said certification in an active status during the term of employment. Must satisfactorily complete all of the Brevard County Mandatory Training for the Development of New Employees within nine (9) months of employment. Must be able to work planned and unplanned overtime and standby and call-out duties on a rotational basis. In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man-made disaster, that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
