| Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The Office of University Counsel represents the University, which entails providing legal advice and counsel to the Board of Trustees, the Chancellor, the administration, faculty, and staff on legal matters involving or affecting the institution. We advise the University administration on a broad range of initiatives, issues, and policy matters, and serve as a liaison between the University and its related and affiliated entities on legal and policy issues. We also assist with program implementation and provide legal and policy training for internal University audiences and educational programs for legal audiences and general audiences outside the institution on matters affecting the University and higher education in general. We engage in crisis and opportunity management and preventative counseling, including the identification of high-risk activities and enterprises conducted by the University and the articulation of methodologies or strategies for coping with the risks. Our Office is responsible for selecting and supervising any outside counsel engaged by the institution. | Position Summary |
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy.
Onsite parking available to employees at no charge.
The Executive Assistant provides executive support to the Associate Vice Chancellor, and additional attorneys across practices areas. The Executive Assistant serves as support for other administrative staff when necessary and can provide a full range of executive services for other attorneys within the unit.
Reporting to the Executive Director of Operations and Strategy, this professional is an initial point of contact for telephone calls, greeting, referring, and assisting visitors and staff with essential office functions. They manage various administrative tasks including calendar scheduling, mail, correspondence, document review, filings, purchasing and requisition of supplies and services for the office, attorney registrations, conferences, renewals, travel, and event planning. With supervision, they manage financial transactions, including tracking P-card purchases, submitting receipts, creating vouchers, and maintaining vendor contract relations. Along with other key employees, this individual will support the office in communication with the building owner as to service, deliveries, pick-ups, parking, and general notifications to tenants. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
High school diploma or equivalency and three years of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience; or Associate's degree in secretarial science, business administration, or a related discipline and one year of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience ; or Bachelor's degree, preferably in business administration or a related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
| Management Preferences |
Professional experience in a higher education or law firm setting.
Experience with ConnectCarolina, BuyCarolina, and Concur Travel
Proficiency with software applications, including all Microsoft Office 365, Teams, and Sharepoint. |
