Overview

The Gas Engineering support section within the Design Engineering department is looking to hire a Junior Designer to join its team. The qualified candidate must have a minimum of an Associates Degree (technical/science) in Mechanical Design, Mechanical Technology, Electrical Technology, Civil Design, Architectural Design or Pre Engineering. In lieu of an Associates Degree, a High School Diploma (or GED equivalent) and two (2) years of equivalent and relevant design work experience will be accepted. The ideal candidate will be dedicated, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and on teams. This individual will have the flexibility to handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines. The candidate must have strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with personnel on all levels. The candidate must be proficient in the use of computers with the ability to perform drafting and design utilizing AutoCAD 2D or Micro Station. Knowledge of 3D design and the ability to utilize current 3D software applications is preferred. He or she must have a working knowledge of mechanical, civil, electrical, structural or architectural design. Applicants will also have a working knowledge of construction, engineering and design specifications. The candidate must have the ability to read and interpret design, piping codes, building codes, regulations, and standards to be able to produce quality design drawings and supporting documentation. Applicant will be responsible for coordinating design work with designers from other design disciplines, engineers, station personnel, in addition to providing design field support during construction activities.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • The Junior Designer (electrical) applicant will work with civil, electrical and mechanical engineering disciplines, designing new and modifying existing stations supporting Gas Engineering and Gas Operations. Applicant must have knowledge preparing and understanding general arrangement, sections, elevations, installation details, electrical wiring drawings and schematics.
  • Search the Drawing Management system for applicable drawings that are pertinent to the task or function they have been assigned by a design supervisor.
  • Retrieve both electronic and paper print copies of applicable drawings that are pertinent to the task or function they have been assigned by a design supervisor.
  • Read and interpret design, piping codes, building codes, regulations, and standards to be able to produce quality design drawings and supporting documentation.
  • Create new and revise existing drawings under the direction of a design supervisor or engineer, and promoting these revised drawings through the established approval process.
  • Work with AutoCad to perform drafting and design within this software.
  • Conform to the companys standard CAD procedures for preparing and submitting drawings.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • High School Diploma/GED and 2 years of equivalent and relevant design work experience or
  • Associate's Degree in Mechanical Design, Mechanical Technology, Electrical Design, Electrical Technology, Civil Design, Architectural Design or Pre Engineering
Relevant Work Experience
  • Ability to review and interpret multi-discipline drawings, including civil/structural, electrical, fire protection, HVAC, and P&ID drawings.
  • Familiarity with piping codes, building codes, regulations, and standards needed to develop accurate design drawings and supporting documentation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with employees at all levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Preferred knowledge of 3D design software, such as AutoCAD Plant 3D, Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar tools used to create 3D models.
  • Preferred familiarity with drawing management systems used to access, print, store, view, search, and manage company systems, gas systems, and related pipe supports.
  • Preferred working knowledge of manual and computerized piping stress analysis.

Additional Physical Demands
  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Selected candidate must be willing and able to work in all weather conditions.
  • The working environment consists of both office and field settings.
  • The job requires strong manual dexterity.
  • Office work may require periods of prolonged sitting.
  • Field work may require extensive walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, and need to work in environments with exposure to noise, heat, confined spaces, heights, etc.
  • Will be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, hard hat, gloves, fire retardant clothing, respirator, etc.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
