| Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
University Communications and Marketing protects and advances Carolina's reputation as the nation's first and best public research university. In partnership with leaders and colleagues across campus, the team is responsible for developing and implementing an integrated strategy to share the impact of our university's teaching, research and service that improves our state, nation and world. Areas within University Communications and Marketing include Web Planning and Production, Internal Communications, Development Marketing, Executive Communications, Strategic Communications, Marketing, Social Media, Creative Services, and the
UNC Visitors Center. |
| Position Summary |
Reporting to the Director of Social Media, the Social Media Specialist develops, creates and amplifies engaging content across the University's primary social media channels while supporting the University's broader digital storytelling strategy. This position plans and executes integrated social media campaigns; develops platform-specific strategies for emerging and established channels, including YouTube; supports the promotion and growth of the University's podcast portfolio; monitors trends and conversations affecting the University's reputation; and helps maintain a consistent institutional voice across digital platforms. The specialist collaborates closely with content creators, videographers, photographers and executive communications staff to maximize the reach and impact of University stories. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
| Management Preferences |
* Demonstrated knowledge of AP Style and experience creating content for institutional or brand social media channels is highly desirable.
* Preferred candidates will have experience supporting or promoting podcasts, including developing social media campaigns, creating multimedia promotional assets and implementing audience engagement strategies across digital platforms.
* Experience supporting YouTube channel management, video optimization, audience growth strategies and performance analytics is also preferred.
* Candidates should demonstrate expertise managing institutional social media accounts across platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, TikTok and YouTube.
* Experience developing video-first content strategies, optimizing YouTube content for audience growth, promoting podcasts or multimedia storytelling, strong copywriting and editing skills, analytics reporting, and knowledge of social media trends and best practices is preferred. |
