Summary

Spire is seeking a Windows Server Administrator who will be responsible for managing the server ticket queue and maintaining, monitoring, and supporting the organization's Microsoft Windows Server environment and associated infrastructure platforms. This position will provide Tier II/III support for escalated server and infrastructure issues and play a critical role in ensuring high availability, performance, security, and compliance of enterprise systems.





The Windows Server Administrator will leverage tools including SolarWinds, ServiceNow, VMware vSphere, and Rubrik to proactively monitor infrastructure, manage incidents and requests, support virtualization environments, perform backup and recovery operations, and assist with disaster recovery activities. This role will collaborate closely with cybersecurity, networking, application support, and patch management teams to maintain a stable and secure enterprise environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, administer, and maintain Microsoft Windows Server operating systems in physical and virtual environments.
  • Manage and support Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and related Microsoft infrastructure services.
  • Monitor server health, system performance, capacity, and availability using SolarWinds and other enterprise monitoring platforms.
  • Utilize ServiceNow for incident management, request fulfillment, change management, problem management, and documentation.
  • Administer VMware vSphere environments, including provisioning, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of virtual machines.
  • Perform routine system maintenance, upgrades, patching, and firmware updates in accordance with company standards.
  • Collaborate with the Patch Management Team to ensure timely deployment of security updates and remediation of vulnerabilities.
  • Manage enterprise backup, recovery, and retention processes utilizing Rubrik backup and recovery solutions.
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution activities.
  • Perform file, application, and server restoration activities as required.
  • Create and maintain PowerShell scripts and automation processes to streamline administration and operational tasks.
  • Support Windows-based applications and server services across multiple business units.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve servers, operating system, virtualization, storage, backup, and infrastructure-related issues.
  • Manage server resource utilization, storage allocation, and performance optimization.
  • Configure and maintain Windows file shares, permissions, and access controls in compliance with company policies.
  • Participate in infrastructure projects including server deployments, migrations, upgrades, and technology refresh initiatives.
  • Support vulnerability remediation and security hardening efforts in partnership with Cybersecurity teams.
  • Assist with audits and compliance initiatives by providing system documentation, reports, and evidence as required.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, system diagrams, processes, and operational procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to ITIL best practices and operational standards.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to support critical systems and infrastructure.

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent, required with 4+ years of equivalent work experience in Information Systems/Technology.
  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science or business information systems preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License, required.
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA), preferred.
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator or similar, a plus.
  • MTA: Windows Server Administration Fundamentals or similar, a plus.
  • CompTIA Server+, Security+, or similar certifications are a plus.
  • Rubrik or backup administration certifications are a plus.
  • ITIL Foundation certification preferred.

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

  • Proven experience administering Microsoft Windows Server 2016, 2019, and/or 2022 environments.
  • Strong experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, Certificate Services, and related Microsoft technologies.
  • Experience administering VMware vSphere / ESXi environments.
  • Experience utilizing SolarWinds or similar enterprise monitoring platforms for infrastructure monitoring and alerting.
  • Experience working within ServiceNow or similar IT Service Management (ITSM) platforms.
  • Experience administering enterprise backup and recovery solutions, preferably Rubrik.
  • Proficiency in PowerShell scripting and automation.
  • Experience with server patching, vulnerability management, and operating system lifecycle management.
  • Knowledge of storage technologies, SAN environments, and backup architectures.
  • Understanding networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, switching, VPNs, and firewalls.
  • Experience managing Windows file systems, distributed file services (DFS), and access permissions.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices, server hardening standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex infrastructure issues in a timely manner.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across infrastructure, security, network, and application support teams.
  • Ability to prioritize competing priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proven ability to work effectively under pressure and meet established deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to develop and maintain reliable, efficient, and supportable infrastructure solutions.

Physical demands, environment and schedule

  • Normal 40 Hours work week - required participation in on-call rotation, including after normal work hours and on weekends.
  • Department coverage is 7am to 5pm with flexibility in schedules to allow for full coverage.
  • Requires Normal Physical Stamina - Routinely requires lifting computer hardware weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Office and Service Locations Environment.
  • Occasional Overtime and Travel may be required as ITS and teams are dispersed geographically across Spire locations.
