THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role focuses on maintaining, repairing, and installing a wide range of refrigeration, ventilation, heating, and air conditioning systems used throughout the hospital. The work supports daily operations and helps create a safe, comfortable environment for consumers and staff. As a HVAC Refrigeration Technician, you will perform the following duties:

  • Equipment Repair: Perform complex repairs on compressors, valves, motors, and mechanical components
  • System Installation: Construct and install HVAC and refrigeration units using blueprints and diagrams
  • Problem Diagnosis: Identify malfunctions by analyzing issues, performing diagnostics, and testing equipment
  • Maintenance Tasks: Service and balance air handling units and maintain heating and chilled water systems
  • Safety Compliance: Follow safety standards when working with ladders, confined spaces, and hazardous materials
  • Technical Communication: Document work clearly and communicate with supervisors and staff about equipment needs

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. In this role, you will be subject to emergency call-ins.
  • Overtime as operationally necessary
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the HVAC and Building Automation Technician trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Three years of experience in the maintenance, repair, and installation of HVAC and refrigeration systems, units, and equipment including one year working with commercial or industrial HVAC or refrigeration equipment and controls; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year working with commercial or industrial HVAC or refrigeration equipment and controls.
Special Requirements:
  • You must have an active motor vehicle license.

  • You must obtain EPA Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification from an approved provider within 6 months of employment.

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
