The Associate Mechanical and Aerospace Engineer supports the design, development, and testing of mechanical and aerospace systems for DoD and industrial applications. This role focuses on applying foundational engineering principles to assist in creating innovative solutions that meet performance, safety, and project-specific requirements. The position provides hands-on experience in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and Development
- Assist in the design and development of mechanical and aerospace systems, components, and processes under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Create and modify basic CAD models and manufacturing drawings using software such as Creo, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD.
- Perform basic calculations and analyses to support design activities, including material selection, tolerance stack-ups, and GD&T.
Prototyping and Testing
- Support prototype manufacturing efforts by preparing documentation, assisting with setup, and coordinating with shop technicians.
- Assist in the execution of basic testing procedures to validate designs and ensure compliance with performance and safety standards.
- Document test results and provide input for design improvements.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with multidisciplinary project teams, including engineers, technicians, and external vendors, to execute assigned tasks.
- Maintain accurate records, files, and reports related to assigned tasks and project deliverables.
- Communicate progress and findings effectively to team members and supervisors.
Compliance and Quality Assurance
- Follow standardized practices and procedures to ensure quality and consistency in deliverables.
- Ensure designs and processes comply with DoD standards, safety regulations, and project-specific requirements.
Manager Defined Field:
- Experience designing Friction Stir Welding (FSW) fixturing
- Experience working with shop floor personnel assembling fixturing
- Experience creating, reviewing, and revising drawings
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, Systems, or Materials Engineering.
- 0-2 years of relevant experience or equivalent work experience.
- Familiarity with CAD software such as Creo, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD.
- Basic understanding of engineering principles, including GD&T and manufacturing processes.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to follow directions accurately and work effectively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Exposure to Friction Stir Welding, robotic welding, or advanced joining techniques (or willingness to learn).
- Interest in research and development efforts and innovative technologies.
- Familiarity with reverse engineering techniques and rapid prototyping processes.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
