Surgical Tech II/Gastro Tech
BHCOR-Surgical Services I Corbin, KY
Surgical Services consists of 10 OR's. The OR and PACU provide care 24 hours a day, with on-call personnel from 2:30PM to 7:00AM, and weekends for patients of all ages who require emergency and elective surgical procedures.
Functions as an integral member of the surgical team under the direction of the Registered Nurse, providing support for the perioperative plan of care. Performs scrub duties, assists with endoscopic procedures, and carries out other responsibilities that contribute to safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. Ensures the patient's comfort, safety, and well-being throughout the perioperative experience. Prepares and maintains equipment, assists physicians and nursing staff during procedures, and ensures equipment is properly cleaned, maintained, and ready for use. Demonstrates teamwork, professionalism, and a positive attitude while serving as a productive member of the patient care team and supporting overall unit operations and effectiveness.
Prepare and maintain a sterile surgical field using aseptic technique throughout procedures. Select, organize, and manage surgical instruments, equipment, sutures, and supplies. Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team to promote efficient patient care. Perform and document accurate surgical counts before, during, and after procedures. Inspect, prepare, and troubleshoot surgical instruments and equipment prior to use. Demonstrate knowledge of sterilization, disinfection, medication handling, and safe sharps disposal. Assist with room setup, turnover, equipment cleaning, and preparation for subsequent cases. Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nurses, and other team members to ensure quality patient care. Participate in staff education, orientation, performance improvement initiatives, and departmental meetings. Maintain competency across multiple surgical specialties while supporting patient safety, AORN standards, and National Patient Safety Goals. Complete all required education and safety training and uphold Baptist Health's mission, values, and commitment to exceptional patient care.
Associate degree or Technical Diploma from an accredited Surgical Technology program required; Associate degree preferred. No experience required. Completion of a Surgical Technology program required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association required within 30 days of hire. Gastro Enterology Certification required within 6 months of hire.
