Phlebotomist II - Lenexa, KS
We are looking for an experienced Phlebotomist II to join our Lenexa team and provide high-quality patient care and accurate specimen collection. This is a great opportunity for a phlebotomist who enjoys working directly with patients, has strong attention to detail, and is committed to providing a professional and positive patient experience.
Schedule & Requirements
- Monday-Friday schedule with flexibility within a 6:30 AM to 5:30 PM window
- Typical schedule is generally 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM
- Rotational Saturday coverage approximately every 4th-5th Saturday
- No routine travel between locations is required for this position
- Experience working with pediatric and geriatric patients is preferred
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to accurately enter information and navigate computer systems
- Ability to work independently while also contributing to a team environment
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to specimen accuracy
About the Role
As a Phlebotomist II, you will provide professional and compassionate patient care while collecting and processing specimens according to established procedures. You will be responsible for accurately identifying patients, verifying orders, collecting specimens, entering information into laboratory systems, and preparing specimens for testing and transport. In addition to patient-facing responsibilities, you will support the daily operations of the location by maintaining supplies, completing required documentation and logs, sanitizing work areas, answering phones, and assisting with other administrative duties as needed.
What You'll Do
- Collect blood and other specimens according to established procedures, including drug screens, biometric screenings, and insurance exams as applicable
- Provide professional, courteous, and compassionate service to patients
- Verify patient identification and confirm test orders before specimen collection
- Research test and client information and verify written and electronic orders using laboratory technology systems, approved tools, and client contact when needed
- Accurately enter patient, billing, and specimen information into computer systems
- Process specimens, including labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, freezing, and preparing specimens for transport as required by the test order
- Administer oral solutions according to established training
- Obtain identification and accurately enter billing information and collect payments when required, following corporate policies
- Maintain accurate phlebotomy, maintenance, temperature, and other required logs
- Assist with inventory and maintain adequate supplies
- Sanitize and maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Answer phones, utilize email, file documents, and perform other non-patient-facing duties as needed
- Assist with compilation and submission of statistics and data when required
- Follow departmental policies, protocols, procedures, and safety requirements
- Complete required online and in-person training courses in a timely manner
- Work collaboratively with team members to support an efficient and positive patient experience

Pay
$21.50+ per hour Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

Responsibilities:

- Collect specimens according to established procedures. This includes, but not limited to: drug screens, biometric screening and insurance exams.
- Administer oral solutions according to established training.
- Research test/client information and confirm and verify all written and electronic orders by utilizing lab technology systems, Client contact, and approved tools.
- Ability to navigate a computer and accurately enter data is a requirement to be successful in this role.
- Obtain identification and accurately enter billing information and collect payments when required, following corporate policies.
- Processing specimens including: labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, freezing and preparing for transport as required by test order.
- Perform all non-patient facing duties, including inventory, stock supplies, sanitizing, filing, answering phones and utilizing email as appropriate.
- Read, understand and comply with departmental policies, protocols and procedures.
- Assist with compilation and submission of statistics and data when required.
- Maintain all appropriate phlebotomy logs in a timely manner and based on frequency, such as maintenance logs and temperature logs.
- Complete online and in person training courses timely.
Qualifications:
Required Work Experience:
- Three years phlebotomy experience required, inclusive of pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
- Keyboard/data entry experience.
- Flexible and available based on staffing needs, which includes weekends, holidays, on-call and overtime.
- Must have reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and clean driving record, if applicable.
Required Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Medical training: medical assistant or paramedic training preferred.
- Phlebotomy certification preferred. Required in California, Nevada, and Washington.
The position requires the ability to effectively communicate in English.
