The CMC Capital Strategic Advisor leads the Critical Materials Crossroads (CMC) capital-facing workstreams, building the network of capital providers, investors, and government funding partners that support the Critical Material Producer pipeline. This position drives the Validated Deal Flow process for capital seekers, evaluates industrial park and shared-infrastructure investment opportunities, and co-leads fund structuring, working in close coordination with the broader CMC team.

Responsibilities:
- Capital Network Development: Responsible for building and maintaining CMC's capital network, including messaging to the capital community, vetting and prioritizing capital providers, developing government funding relationships, and representing CMC at capital-focused conferences.
- Validated Deal Flow: Responsible for supporting the Critical Material Producer diligence process ("Validated Deal Flow"), including interviewing and screening capital seekers, coaching them on funding sources, and liaising on technical due diligence.
- Industrial Park & Shared-Infrastructure Investment: Responsible for evaluating land and industrial park investment opportunities and developing funding strategies for shared infrastructure, including the shared piloting facility.
- Sustainable Capital Strategy: Responsible for co-leading definition of the CMC Consortium revenue sources, pursuit of government funding programs, defining multi-year capital goals, supporting development of fund structure and financial projections, and ecosystem mapping.
Duties:
- Capital Network Development
- Develop messaging for the capital community
- Vet, categorize, and prioritize Capital Providers for Critical Material Producer match-making
- Pitch the CMC, partners, and industrial park to prospective investors as appropriate
- Support ongoing capital-community messaging and social media
- Develop relationships and introductions with government funding offices
- Represent CMC at conferences, including future speaking engagements as well as supporting hosting of CMC-led conferences and events for capital providers
- Support capital introductions for Critical Material Producers evaluating Kansas City
- Interview other funds and investors to inform CMC strategy
- Validated Deal Flow
- Create and maintain the Critical Material Producer diligence process ("Validated Deal Flow")
- Interview, screen, and qualify capital seekers to identify areas of risk and mitigation
- Create summary investment opportunity memos detailing risk and mitigation, including serving as liaison for technical input for reports
- Support Subject Matter Expert mapping, vetting, and maintenance
- Coach capital seekers on potential funding sources and investment presentation
- Industrial Park & Shared-Infrastructure Investment
- Support land investment evaluation, develop financial structure and projections of industrial park
- Lead industrial park and project fund discussions with capital providers and develop funding strategies for shared infrastructure
- Lead defining scope for shared piloting facility with support from team members
- Support pursuit of government funding programs
- Contribute to developing financial structure and projections
- Sustainable Capital Strategy
- Build relationships and network across the critical material industry to raise awareness of CMC Consortium's work and reputation
- Help define the CMC Consortium's role in the specification library and mapping ontake/offtake partners
- Define budget including sources of ongoing revenue for CMC Consortium
- Define capital goals for Years 1, 3, and 5
Expectations:
- Build and activate a capital network capable of consistently matching capital providers with CM Producers.
- Establish a scalable Validated Deal Flow process with consistent capital-seeker screening, coaching, and diligence support.
- Advance industrial park and shared-infrastructure investment opportunities, including land evaluation and sovereign wealth capital engagement.
- Support development of CMC's fund structure, financial projections, and pursuit of government funding programs.
- Strengthen industry partnerships and offtake relationships that support the broader CMC ecosystem.
- Contribute to CMC Consortium on capital goals, revenue strategy, and ecosystem mapping for Years 1, 3, and 5.
- Demonstrate the ability to manage multiple concurrent, high-priority capital workstreams at different stages of maturity without compromising any single deliverable.
This position is 0.5 FTE (50%), anticipated to average 20 hours per week. This position is fully grant/externally funded and contingent on continued funding.
Minimum Qualifications
- A Master's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
- Capacity to gain and maintain U.S. security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in infrastructure investment, project development, and capital formation, with expertise evaluating and executing investments in emerging energy, critical materials, or other complex industrial projects.
- Experience combining technical or engineering expertise with investment due diligence, financial strategy, and the development of large-scale infrastructure assets is strongly preferred.
Anticipated Hiring Range
The anticipated hiring range for this position will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications, relevant experience, and demonstrated expertise. Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
