Key Job Accountabilities Safety * Oversees the safety of all Production employees holding Shift Supervisor accountable for checking the production floor for safety/housekeeping hazards throughout the shift and addressing issues immediately. * Reports any infractions to Safety Manager as appropriate. * Performs duties in a safe manner; acts as a role model for Safety on shift. Participates in the safety programs and by reporting and addressing unsafe conditions, unsafe acts, and close calls and entering near misses and observations into GDC (Global Data Center. * Oversees the completion of incident reports to ensure thorough, timely and accurate reporting. Participates in preliminary investigations on safety incidents. * Reviews and ensures that daily safety topic discussions are conducted at Pre-shift meetings; communicates with Production Supervisors and Team Leads as appropriate on safety issues. * Oversees required training on selected safety topics as identified by the Safety Manager. * Is a member of Senior Safety Committee and attends monthly meetings. Operations Management * Defines and recommends objectives in each area of production. Develops specific short term and long term plans. * Directs activities of assigned plant personnel and continuously drives improvement on the production floor. * Prepares operational schedules and coordinates production activities to ensure production and quality of products in accordance to Berry quality, and budget specifications. * Review production and operating reports and resolves operational, production, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays. * Reviews production orders or schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities, and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates in order to plan department operations. Reviews production schedule to ensure equipment capabilities and maximum production efficiencies. * Coordinates new product trials and the introduction of new materials into the production process to ensure quality and compatibility to process. Approves new product setup prior to input into JDE. * Inspects machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization. * Monitors blend recipes and resin pricing. Initiates resin substitutions based on resin availability and costs. * Monitors resin inventories; forecasts resin consumption, communicates resin purchase needs to corporate resin buyer. Business Management/Fiscal * Reviews and utilizes existing plant accounting reporting to ensure cost control on production floor. Identifies and implements cost savings. * Makes capital recommendations for budgeting purposes. Administrative/Management * Organizes and leads employee driven teams to address scrap, quality, safety or other production related issues. * Coordinates with plant support staff to complete safety training, quality training, preventative maintenance program implementation, capital forecasting and annual budgeting process. Directly manages and leads the Production Supervisors to accomplish above goals. * Reviews annual performance assessments, identifies training needs to develop Production Staff. Provide ongoing coaching/counseling to Production Supervisors for employee performance. * Makes recommendations on hiring and termination, reviews and makes recommendations on hourly employee performance issues to ensure fairness and consistency. * Conducts daily reviews with production staff to optimize production. * Willing to work flexible schedule to accommodate production and shift needs. Supervisory Responsibilities Supervises employees in the Production Department either directly or through subordinate supervisors. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Qualifications/Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education: Knowledge normally acquired through completion of a 4 year manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering or other related technical field or equivalent combination of education and experience. 4 year degree and Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma or other manufacturing and quality Certification is preferred. Skills/Experience: : In addition to the educational requirements, 10 years progressively responsible management experience in a manufacturing environment required. 5 years blown film extrusion/conversion experience and ISO 9000 experience preferred. Minimum education and years of experience should not be used exclusive of other leveling factors described below. Documents all procedural and process changes in accordance with company policies. * Problem Solving - Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; Gathers and analyzes information skillfully; Develops alternative solutions; Works well in group problem solving situations; Uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.
