Job Description

JOB OBJECTIVE: Work in conjunction with Product Development & Adoption (PDA), R&D, and Product Marketing Teams to develop, plan, communicate, execute, and lead worldwide marketing strategies (short and long-term) and tactics for the market segments using clearly defined goals, objectives, critical success factors, timelines, budgets, and metrics. Responsible for creating and managing the programs and communications about our products and services to internal and external customers in assigned market segment area(s). Translate and coordinate Product Management and Product Marketing goals and strategies into successful global market segment marketing plans and activities that achieve business objectives. Work closely with branch marketing and marketing services to ensure successful adoption and execution of global marketing plans and sales activities. Critically, this person must be able to perform the below duties showing credibility and industry knowledge to the customers and to internal stakeholders.

CORE DUTIES:

Duty 1: Develop Go-to-Market Strategies for the Pharmaceutical Market Segment
Independently develop comprehensive go-to-market strategies for the pharmaceutical industry segment. This requires deep knowledge of how pharmaceutical companies operate, make purchasing decisions, and allocate budget. The strategy must address:
* Growth projections and realistic revenue targets for the segment.
* Target company identification (which pharmaceutical companies and which therapeutic areas represent the best growth opportunities).
* Product area prioritization (e.g., small molecules, biologics, cell and gene therapy, etc.).
* Value positioning and competitive differentiation for each product area.
* Tactical approaches and marketing initiatives aligned with pharma customer needs.

Duty 2: Drive Cross-Functional Collaboration and Field Engagement
Lead close collaboration with internal product management groups (PDA for new products, CES for established products), R&D, Marketing Services, SCMT, and Sales to execute marketing initiatives and campaigns. This duty includes two distinct directions:
Direction 1 - Marketing Execution:
* Take an active role in generating customer-facing materials and promotional campaigns.
* Drive marketing initiatives that support company focus areas.
* Lead the development of campaigns, collateral, and promotional programs in partnership with internal stakeholders.

Direction 2 - Market Intelligence:
* Attend industry conferences and conduct customer visits to identify emerging trends and unmet needs.
* Monitor pharmaceutical industry activity, particularly new biotech acquisitions and market shifts.
* Gather field insights into customer priorities and competitive threats.
* Co-travel with SCMT to strengthen market understanding and drive strategy refinement.

Duty 3: Provide Global Leadership and Regional Guidance
Operate with a global mindset and serve as the strategic leader for the pharmaceutical segment across all regions. Act as the authoritative voice on pharmaceutical segment strategy and market positioning across the organization. This includes:
* Work with global branches and regional marketing teams to develop tactics that are both strategically aligned and regionally appropriate.
* Provide guidance and support to branches, other Segment Marketing Managers, and business units on segment strategy and best practices.
* Ensure consistent execution of global strategy while enabling regional flexibility where appropriate.
* Monitor and measure the effectiveness of marketing strategies and initiatives across regions and business units.
* Maintain extensive and effective communication across the organization-from core product management teams to global colleagues-to ensure alignment and accountability.

Duty 4: Train, Coach, and Mentor Colleagues
Build marketing capability across the organization by training, coaching, and mentoring colleagues on pharmaceutical segment marketing strategies, tactics, and best practices. Develop a culture of continuous learning and strategic rigor within the segment marketing function.
This includes:
* Mentor other Segment Marketing Managers and business unit colleagues on go-to-market approaches.
* Coach team members on market analysis, competitive positioning, and strategic thinking.
* Share industry knowledge and pharmaceutical customer insights with colleagues.
* May include direct management responsibility for junior marketers or team members as needed.

Duty 5: Compliance and Integrate into Promega Culture

* Understands and complies with ethical, legal and regulatory requirements applicable to our business.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

1. PhD in life sciences or chemistry + 5+ years of pharmaceutical R&D experience, with clear progression in the scientific career ladder, demonstrating strategic thinking, cross-functional influence, and deep knowledge of pharmaceutical customer workflows.

2. Ability to comprehend, present, and discuss scientific content at an advanced level.

3. Demonstrated success with a variety of marketing functions including strategic and tactical marketing, marketing communications, market research, distribution channels, competitive intelligence, and customer communications.

4. Strong public speaking skills needed to represent Promega at external meetings, conferences, and organizations. Able to present high-level information for multiple audiences ranging from scientists to marketers.

5. Attend industry trainings, workshops, conferences, focus groups and other activities associated with marketing tactics as a presenter or Promega representative.

6. Proven ability to analyze issues, think strategically and creatively and execute innovative ideas for the portfolio in target market and customer segments.

7. Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills.

8. Demonstrated ability to work on multiple detailed projects and assignments simultaneously and independently.

9. Highly motivated self-starter and goal-oriented professional who can adapt style and approach to suit different audiences.

10. Demonstrated proficiency in digital tools and technology, including Microsoft applications and mobile platforms, with the ability to adapt and leverage emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, to improve efficiency, automation, and collaboration.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. PhD or MBA preferred.

2. For candidates applying from pharmaceuticals R&D background, progression to the Associate Principal Scientist level or equivalent is preferred.

3. In-depth understanding of the pharmaceutical drug development process.

4. Experience working in a global organization with regional branch and/or distributor marketing and sales teams.

5. Experience or familiarity with sales strategies and techniques.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

1. Ability to move objects up to 25 pounds.

2. Ability to use computer and Microsoft Office applications.

3. Ability to travel as needed, domestic and international, up to 30% of the time.
