The Material Handler supports warehouse and production operations by safely receiving, storing, moving, staging, and shipping materials to ensure efficient production and customer deliveries. This role maintains accurate inventory using warehouse management systems, supports production schedules, and follows all safety, quality, and operational standards while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Receive, inspect, unload, and store incoming materials using forklifts and other material handling equipment
- Move raw materials, finished goods, and packaging materials between warehouse, storage, and production areas
- Pick, stage, and prepare materials for production orders and customer shipments
- Read production schedules, work orders, shipping documents, and Production Work Tickets (PWTs) to determine material requirements and priorities
- Verify material quantities, part numbers, lot numbers, and inventory locations while reporting discrepancies or damaged materials
- Accurately complete inventory transactions using Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), ERP systems, and handheld scanners
- Perform cycle counts and assist with physical inventories to maintain inventory accuracy
- Prepare outbound shipments by verifying materials, labeling products, and completing required documentation
- Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, carts, and other material handling equipment while performing required equipment inspections
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while following company safety policies and housekeeping standards
- Communicate inventory shortages, equipment concerns, and operational issues to supervisors
- Participate in safety meetings, compliance training, and continuous improvement activities
- Support changing production priorities and perform other duties as assigned
- Support ISO quality standards and documentation requirements
- Handle chemicals and regulated materials in accordance with SDS, HAZMAT, and EHSS requirements
- Verify outbound shipment quality and shipping accuracy
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED
Experience/Training:
- Previous warehouse, manufacturing, logistics, or material handling experience preferred
- 1-4 years of experience operating forklifts
- Experience using Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), ERP systems, or handheld scanners preferred
License/Certification:
- Forklift certification preferred or ability to obtain certification after hire
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions
- Basic computer and mathematical skills
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in a team environment
- Ability to prioritize work and adapt to changing production demands
- Ability to safely operate warehouse equipment following training and company procedures
- Warehouse Management System (WMS) or ERP software (such as JD Edwards)
- Handheld scanners
- Basic Microsoft Office applications
- Experience in a manufacturing, warehouse, or distribution environment
- Experience with JD Edwards or another ERP system
- Forklift certification
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Continuous Improvement, or ISO quality systems
- Experience working in a regulated manufacturing or chemical environment
Physical, Mental, Environmental Demands:
- Lift and carry up to 60 pounds occasionally and move materials weighing up to 400 pounds using powered material handling equipment
- Stand, walk, bend, reach, climb, and operate warehouse equipment for extended periods
- Frequently use hands to grasp, lift, scan, and move materials
- Analyze inventory information, solve problems, prioritize tasks, and maintain attention to detail while working in a fast-paced environment
- Work in warehouse and manufacturing environments with varying temperatures, moderate to loud noise, moving equipment, and forklift traffic
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed footwear
- Occasional travel between company locations may be required based on business needs
