Responsibilities
Depending on the position, team members may assist with food preparation and cooking, patient meal assembly and delivery, cafeteria and retail food service, dishwashing, kitchen sanitation, and general food service operations. All roles work together to ensure meals and food service areas meet hospital standards for quality, safety, sanitation, and timely service.
- Prepare, season, and cook meals according to standardized recipes, production needs, and applicable therapeutic diet requirements.
- Assist with food preparation, meal assembly, portioning, serving, and patient meal delivery.
- Support cafeteria, retail dining, patient dining, and catering operations as assigned.
- Wash and sanitize dishes, utensils, cookware, kitchen equipment, and food preparation areas.
- Maintain clean and sanitary kitchens, workstations, dining areas, and food service equipment.
- Follow established food safety, sanitation, infection prevention, and hospital policies and procedures.
- Ensure food is prepared, handled, stored, and served safely and at appropriate temperatures.
- Follow applicable patient meal and physician-ordered therapeutic diet requirements based on assigned responsibilities.
- Stock food, beverages, utensils, supplies, and other items needed for daily food service operations.
- Provide friendly and responsive customer service to patients, visitors, physicians, and hospital staff.
- Work collaboratively with Food & Nutrition Services team members to support efficient and timely meal service.
- Perform additional food service, kitchen, or sanitation duties based on the position and department needs.
Qualifications
Preferred Job Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Cooks: One (1) year of institutional, hospital, or high-volume food service experience
- Texas Food Handler Certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire)
- Experience in healthcare, institutional food service, or high-volume food production
- ServSafe Food Protection Manager certification or obtained within 30 days of hire
