Specialist, Total Rewards

Steptoe LLP is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Total Rewards Specialist to join our Total Rewards team. In this role, you'll play a key role in the day-to-day administration of the firm's Total Rewards programs, including benefits, leave, compensation, and compliance activities. You'll serve as a trusted resource for employees, partner closely with Payroll to ensure accurate benefits administration, and support initiatives such as open enrollment, new hire orientation, audits, reporting, and vendor management.

This position offers a balanced workload and a high degree of flexibility, making it ideal for someone who values autonomy, precision, and meaningful work. You'll handle sensitive data with care, contribute to process improvements, and help deliver clear, helpful guidance to employees.

Essential Functions

  • Administer employee leaves of absence, including FMLA, ADA, parental leave, and other firm-sponsored leave programs, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and firm policies while providing a high level of employee support.
  • Serve as a key resource for employees and managers, responding to questions and resolving issues related to benefits, leave, compensation, and other Total Rewards programs.
  • Partner closely with Payroll to ensure accurate benefit deductions, leave pay coordination, and timely resolution of payroll and benefits-related discrepancies.
  • Triage and resolve benefits enrollment, HRIS, and vendor-related issues, working across HR, Payroll, and external partners to ensure a seamless employee experience.
  • Deliver Total Rewards content during new hire orientation and support employee-facing initiatives through effective communications, education sessions, and employee outreach.
  • Coordinate open enrollment activities, including employee communications, vendor coordination, system testing, enrollment audits, and employee support.
  • Perform regular audits, reconciliations, and compliance activities related to benefits and leave programs, including eligibility reviews, payroll audits, vendor billing reviews, and support for nondiscrimination testing and other regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with compensation administration and analysis, including market pricing, job evaluations, annual compensation processes, reporting, and data integrity initiatives.
  • Support wellness and retirement plan operations, partnering with vendors and internal stakeholders on program administration, employee communications, educational initiatives, reporting, and other activities that enhance employee engagement and program effectiveness.

    Minimum Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in HR or a related field.
  • 3+ years in a specialist or administrator role in benefits, leave administration and/or compensation.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel for basic data tracking and reporting (e.g., sorting, filtering, simple formulas).
  • Clear, professional communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with accuracy and discretion.
  • Working knowledge of benefits regulations (ERISA, FMLA, ADA, etc.).
  • A proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Comfort working independently and collaboratively across teams.

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $80,000 - $85,000. The actual base salary offered will be dependent upon the applicant's experience and qualifications, as well as other job-related factors, including but not limited to, relevant skills, education, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, geographic location.
