Transfer Station Laborer (Lakewood, WA)

PCR LeMay, a Waste Connections company, is hiring a Laborer/Yard Hostler to support daily operations at our commercial transfer station in Lakewood, WA.

This is a hands-on position that combines general labor, yard maintenance, trailer movement, equipment operation, and site cleanup. The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors, staying active throughout the day, and taking pride in keeping a facility clean, organized, and operating safely.

This is not a customer-facing position. You'll work alongside equipment operators, mechanics, and operations staff to keep the transfer station running efficiently while maintaining compliance with safety and environmental standards.

Pay Range: $25.00 - $26.00 per hour

• Monday through Friday
• 5:30 AM - 3:45 PM
• Regular overtime opportunities
• Occasional Saturday work based on business needs

• Safely move, stage, and position trailers throughout the transfer station yard.
• Operate a yard goat/hostler vehicle to move transfer trailers as needed.
• Operate small equipment such as skid steers (Bobcats) to assist with cleanup and site operations.
• Assist with trailer tarping operations, including manually pulling tarps over trailers using catwalk systems.
• Clean material that falls around transfer trailers and loading areas.
• Perform general labor duties including sweeping, litter collection, shoveling, facility cleanup, and yard maintenance.
• Support monthly site inspections by maintaining a clean, organized, and inspection-ready facility.
• Inspect the yard and report unsafe conditions, equipment issues, or maintenance concerns.
• Fill potholes, perform minor fence repairs, and assist with general site upkeep.
• Assist equipment operators and other operations personnel as needed.
• Support weather-related cleanup efforts and special projects.
• Operate forklifts when certified. Forklift training and certification opportunities may be available.
• Follow all safety, environmental, and operational procedures.
• Maintain a professional, organized, and safety-focused work environment.

This position involves a significant amount of walking throughout the day and working outdoors in all weather conditions.

Employees help maintain a busy transfer station where multiple trailers are loaded daily. Material that falls outside of trailers must be cleaned up to keep the site safe and compliant. The role includes frequent bending, climbing, sweeping, shoveling, lifting, and other physical tasks.

Tarping trailers is a regular responsibility and may require working from elevated catwalks. Pulling tarps is not extremely heavy, but it can involve awkward positions and approximately 50-70 pounds of pulling force. Tarping is often completed as a team effort but may occasionally be performed independently.

The facility is an active industrial environment with trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, and transfer station operations occurring throughout the day.

• Previous labor, construction, warehouse, transportation, manufacturing, landscaping, recycling, landfill, transfer station, or industrial experience.
• Experience working around trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment.
• Yard hostler, spotter, yard goat, equipment operator, forklift operator, or commercial driving experience.
• Experience operating skid steers, Bobcats, loaders, or similar equipment.
• Ability to work safely in a fast-paced outdoor environment.
• Strong work ethic and willingness to perform both labor and equipment-related tasks.
• Experience performing facility maintenance, cleanup, or site inspections is a plus.

• Frequently stand and walk for extended periods.
• Frequently bend, kneel, squat, climb, and perform repetitive motions.
• Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly.
• Pull tarping systems weighing approximately 50-70 pounds.
• Work around moving trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment.
• Climb on catwalk systems while performing tarping duties.
• Work outdoors in rain, wind, heat, cold, dust, mud, and noise.

• Valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
