Position Location: This position is located in Los Alamos, New Mexico. Los Alamos is a tight-knit mountain community that consistently ranks as one of Livability.com's Best Small Towns in America. Position Summary The Facility Operation Director (FOD) is a senior level position reporting to the Director of Waste and Facility Operations. The FOD position at N3B CH-TRU is responsible for managing and maintaining safe, secure, and compliant work environments at TA-54, enabling efficient and effective mission execution for the CH-TRU Project. The FOD position provides management oversight and compliance for programmatic operations within the TA-54, Area G nuclear facility and the balance of TA-54 including direct management responsibility of the TA-54 Operations Center, Shift Operations Managers, and Nuclear Operators. The scope of this position provides support and facility availability for waste management activities, including characterization, remediation, retrievals, and repackaging efforts for off-site waste disposition of TRU and M/LLW. The FOD position ensures that there is adequate Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, and ESH&Q support facility and waste operations at TA-54. Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):
Education and Experience Required: Bachelors' degree in appropriate discipline with 14 years of related experience. Experience should include a minimum of 6 years of management responsibility. A combination of education and/or relevant experience wherein the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the position's duties and responsibilities have been adequately demonstrated is acceptable. Per DOE O 426.2, must have bachelors degree and 4 years of nuclear experience Business Associations: Interacts with senior management, and others concerning matters of significance to the company. Conducts business and technical briefings for senior and top management and for external representatives. Impact: Decisions have a serious impact on the overall success or failure on area of accountability. Erroneous decisions or recommendation may cause critical delays or modiciations to company projects or operations causing substantial expenditure of time, human resources and funds. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Light Work Category - Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for sedentary work. The employee exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
