Supply Chain Manager, Indirect Procurement

Tesla Motors, Inc.
paid holidays, flex time, 401(k)
United States, Texas, Austin
Sep 14, 2026
What to Expect
Tesla's mission is to build a world of amazing abundance - abundant energy, abundant autonomy, and products that scale without compromise. The suppliers and contracts behind that work are how we actually get there.

We are looking for a driven Supply Chain Manager to own sourcing and contracting for Indirect categories: the services and partners that keep Tesla building, delivering, and scaling. You will set strategy, run competitive sourcing, negotiate hard, and turn ambiguous needs into signed agreements that protect cost, schedule, and quality.

This is a high-ownership role in a fast-moving environment. You will not sit on the sidelines of Tesla's growth. You will shape how we buy, who we partner with, and how well those partnerships perform. Flexibility, judgment, and a bias for action are essential.

You will own strategy in your assigned categories: supplier selection, key supplier relationships, and commercial cost reduction. You will partner closely with internal stakeholders and work across functions to get work contracted on schedule and on budget.

What You'll Do
  • Build sourcing strategies aligned to business objectives, and win stakeholder support for contracting decisions
  • Analyze spend and purchasing trends, evaluate incumbent suppliers, and identify high-potential alternatives
  • Pre-qualify suppliers by assessing financial strength, insurance, and relevant past performance. Own RFI, RFP, and RFQ processes so scopes are contracted to the required schedule, with commercial terms agreed and documented
  • Review, analyze, and clarify bid packages; negotiate pricing and terms; and make award recommendations that deliver savings, cost avoidance, or cost containment, including supplier consolidation where it makes sense
  • Negotiate MSAs and other long-term agreements, set performance measures, and drive ongoing cost reduction through structured and ad hoc negotiations
  • Ensure NDAs, SOWs, and Master Purchase Agreements are in place before work starts. Monitor market conditions, supply risk, and demand changes that affect your categories. Manage day-to-day supplier relationships, performance, and dispute resolution. Serve as the first point of contact for contractual issues
  • Operate effectively with incomplete scope and schedule information, and make sound decisions under tight timelines. Act ethically and in Tesla's financial interest at all times

What You'll Bring
  • 5+ years in procurement, sourcing, or a related role with hands-on ownership of contracts, RFPs/RFx, and vendor negotiations
  • Strong negotiation, stakeholder, and interpersonal skills
  • Solid analytical judgment; proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, and comfort working with contracting documents (including Acrobat or similar)
  • Working knowledge of commercial contract structures (NDAs, SOWs, MSAs) and basic contract law
  • Self-starter who can adapt, improvise, and problem-solve. Able to run multiple workstreams independently, keep transactional detail organized, and operate with ~80% information in a changing environment
  • Experience sourcing energy product installation services (solar, utilities, or similar field services)
  • Experience supporting fleet management (vehicle, telematics, maintenance, or related services)
