We are seeking an experienced Oracle Database Engineer to support a large enterprise database environment undergoing modernization and migration to AWS. The role will be approximately 50 percent business-as-usual Oracle database administration and 50 percent support for database migration activities.

General Oracle administration experience is the primary requirement. Deep AWS expertise is not required, but candidates should understand the database administration implications of moving Oracle workloads into AWS. A separate AWS team will lead the migration, while this individual will prepare and maintain the Oracle environment and support operational readiness, validation, and cutover activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer and support enterprise Oracle database environments.
  • Perform database maintenance, performance tuning, capacity planning, backup and recovery, upgrades, patching, and troubleshooting.
  • Support high availability and disaster recovery processes within the Oracle environment.
  • Support approximately 50 percent BAU database administration and 50 percent AWS migration-related activities.
  • Prepare Oracle environments, schemas, jobs, dependencies, and operational processes for migration.
  • Work with the AWS migration team to support testing, validation, cutover preparation, and post-migration stabilization.
  • Help ensure migration activities do not disrupt production database operations.
  • Support compatibility assessments for applications, databases, and schemas.
  • Participate in the modernization of older Oracle database environments.
  • Perform planned maintenance activities, including occasional weekend work.
  • Collaborate with governance, architecture, client, migration, and BAU support teams.
  • Ensure compliance with enterprise security, governance, and database standards.
Required Qualifications
  • Strong hands-on experience with Oracle Database administration and engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of Oracle architecture, maintenance, performance tuning, backup and recovery, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience supporting large-scale production Oracle environments.
  • Experience working in Linux or Unix environments.
  • Understanding of database migration methodologies and the operational implications of moving Oracle workloads into AWS.
  • Ability to work onsite 3 to 4 days per week in the Washington, DC or Dallas metropolitan area.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to begin the assignment on or near October 1, 2026.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Oracle Data Guard, high availability, and disaster recovery.
  • Experience supporting older Oracle database versions and modernization initiatives.
  • Exposure to AWS RDS for Oracle or other cloud database services.
  • Experience supporting Oracle cloud migration projects.
  • Automation experience using Python, Ansible, or similar tools.
  • Exposure to DevOps and Infrastructure-as-Code practices.
Experience
  • Approximately 8 or more years of database administration or engineering experience preferred.
  • Candidates with 4 to 5 years of strong, directly relevant experience may be considered depending on seniority and overall team composition.
