THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission is looking for an energetic, journey-level trades person to perform regular repair and preventative maintenance work on structures, systems, and equipment; groundskeeping; and other support work for overall site operation at Pennsbury Manor, the historic home of William Penn. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Located along the banks of the Delaware River in Bucks County, Pennsbury Manor is a 43-acre, living history complex that preserves and interprets the life of William Penn and the experiences of the colonists, servants, enslaved people and Native Americans who lived on the land, using nearly 20 buildings and the historic landscape as well as dynamic exhibits, educational programs and special events.

This role supports the upkeep of the buildings, grounds, and equipment throughout Pennsbury Manor Historic Site. It involves skilled repair and maintenance work in many building and mechanical trades. As a Maintenance Repairman 2, you will perform the following duties:

  • General Maintenance: Perform cleaning, repair, and basic upkeep of site buildings, exhibits, and grounds
  • Electrical Work: Install and maintain wiring, fixtures, circuits, and related equipment following safety standards
  • Plumbing Tasks: Repair and maintain plumbing fixtures, pipes, and heating or water lines
  • Grounds Care: Cut grass, trim shrubs, remove debris, and complete basic landscaping to keep areas safe
  • Carpentry and Repairs: Use power tools to repair doors, furniture, partitions, and other wooden structures
  • Equipment Upkeep: Service outdoor maintenance equipment such as mowers, tractors, and utility vehicles

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Wednesday - Sunday, with a 30-minute lunch. Evening, weekend, and holiday work for special events and operational needs will be required.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience as a Maintenance Repairman 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Four years of experience in building and plant maintenance work, which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities.

Special Requirements:

  • You must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License.

Additional Requirements:

  • Candidates must have two or more years of experience in the following:
    • Operation and maintenance of equipment, hand tools, and power tools
    • Operation and maintenance of vehicles including trucks, utility vehicles, lawn mowers, and snow removal equipment
    • Completing routine building repairs involving but not limited to plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC systems
    • Maintaining and/or repairing tools and equipment
    • Performing groundskeeping work and snow removal
    • Identifying maintenance issues and solving problems
    • Performing skilled and heavy manual labor indoors and outdoors
    • Communicating effectively both orally, electronically, and in writing
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Experience operating backhoes, bucket trucks, boom lifts, fork lifts, tractors, skid steers
  • Experience working with the public
  • Experience working with contractors, other staff and volunteers

Legal Requirements:

  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
