THE POSITION

The Security Officer 1 position with the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) offers an important role in keeping the Southeastern Veterans' Center safe and welcoming. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position focuses on protecting people and property while helping maintain a safe and orderly environment at the Southeastern Veterans' Center. The role involves patrol duties, safety checks, assisting residents, and responding to emergencies as needed. As a Security Officer 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Patrol Duties: Patrol buildings, grounds, and parking areas to check for theft, trespass, and violations of fire and safety rules
  • Security Checks: Check door locks, secure buildings after hours, and monitor lights in offices and storage areas
  • Public Assistance: Assist visitors, residents, and staff by giving directions, answering calls, and preventing unauthorized access
  • Emergency Response: Respond to emergencies, help locate missing residents, and work with police during urgent situations
  • Investigative Tasks: Gather evidence, interview individuals, and conduct searches when suspicious circumstances arise
  • Safety Support: Participate in fire drills, inspect safety equipment, and follow all required safety procedures

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 3rd shift (12:00 AM to 8:00 AM), with a 30-minute lunch. You will work every weekend and have Wednesday and Thursday off. Your schedule may change based on operational needs.
  • Overtime and travel as needed
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Special Requirement:

  • You must possess a valid Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle operator's license.

Additional Requirement:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Willingness to work in Spring City, Chester County, Pennsylvania.
  • Willingness to work a permanent full-time schedule
  • Experience working in security
  • Work experience in the security field in the following areas:

    • Patrolling grounds and buildings

    • Checking for violations of fire and safety rules and regulations

    • Checking building and office locks and lights

    • Answering phone calls related to security concerns and emergencies

    • Assisting and offering customer service to visitors and the public

    • Approaching unauthorized persons to prevent loitering

    • Assisting with police investigations

    • Operating fire and safety panels, addressing alarms, and resetting trouble codes

    • Working with disaster and emergency preparedness plans

    • Operating surveillance and security equipment and monitors

  • Work experience in a nursing or residential care facility searching for missing residents or assisting residents during emergencies

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
