Job Summary

Assist in the development, coordination and implementation of compelling communication content in support of the University's mission and goals. This position is responsible for creating social media content, written and digital storytelling that highlights the Armstrong Campus while aligning with the University's overall brand and communications strategy.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Communications, this role will work closely with campus partners to develop internal and external communications as well as marketing materials and plans. As a member of the University's communications team, the Communications Specialist creates compelling content that tells the story of Georgia Southern and strengthens its connection to the broader community.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrated ability to research, write and/or edit compelling content about Georgia Southern University students, faculty, staff, alumni and donors
  • Demonstrated ability to write news and feature stories with working knowledge of journalistic writing and AP Style
  • Curate and create social media content - including, but not limited to, written, photo, video, audio - that aligns with the University brand and social media strategy
  • Assist in developing and implementing multimedia strategies to enhance audience engagement and brand visibility
  • Collaborate with social media team to curate and maintain engaging content on the University's YouTube channel
  • Build and maintain relationships with partners across campus to develop story ideas and execute communications and marketing projects to meet institutional goals
  • Develop assets for media outlets and other audiences
Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree

Required Experience

  • One (1) or more years of related work experience
Proposed Salary

$22.36 - $24.04 per hour

This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.

ABILITIES

  • Consistently exhibit engaging customer service
  • Ability to support various constituencies served by the University
  • Proven proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office, Google, and/or applications as required for specific position
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines

KNOWLEDGE

  • Adhere to University policies and procedures to meet Institutional goals and support University's mission for student success
  • Knowledge of Associated Press (AP) style  
  • Experience with marketing strategies and tactics  
  • Efficiency with social media content creation  
  • Proven proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite or similar creative software such as Canva
  • Knowledge of and ability to work within WordPress

SKILLS

  • Effective communication (verbal and written), organizational and human relations skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders
