Responsibilities

LMI is seeking a senior-level Solution Architect to support Army Acquisition, Training, and Readiness (AT&R) and provide technical leadership for the sustainment and enhancement of the Army Contract Writing System (ACWS). ACWS is built on the Appian Platform and supports the Army Contracting Enterprise. The Solution Architect will lead end-to-end solution architecture, integration, and technical decision-making across application, cloud, data, cybersecurity, DevSecOps, testing, and user-facing capabilities.

The successful candidate will bridge strategic architecture and Agile delivery, guide technical teams through architecture runway and solution refinement, and ensure ACWS capabilities remain secure, scalable, interoperable, and maintainable in a mission-critical Army environment.

Define and maintain the end-to-end solution architecture for ACWS, aligning technical direction with program objectives, user needs, and delivery priorities.
  • Lead solution-level architecture across the Appian application stack, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, data architecture, integrations, test automation, and DevSecOps capabilities.
  • Serve as a senior technical design authority and primary architectural interface for government stakeholders, program leadership, and delivery teams.
  • Ensure seamless integration among ACWS application components, shared services, data sources, interfaces, security services, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Guide architectural runway, technical feasibility assessments, nonfunctional requirements, and architecture-related enablers needed for continuous delivery.
  • Participate in Agile and SAFe ceremonies, including PI Planning, architecture syncs, solution refinement, system demos, and retrospectives, as appropriate to the program.
  • Create and maintain architecture artifacts and technical documentation consistent with Army and DoD standards and approved program practices.
  • Provide guidance on secure cloud deployment, identity and access management, application security, resilience, performance, and scalability.
  • Partner with developers, Appian specialists, database administrators, DevSecOps engineers, information assurance personnel, testers, and functional SMEs to resolve architectural issues and delivery risks.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, Appian capabilities, and architectural patterns and recommend practical improvements to ACWS sustainability, usability, security, and maintainability.
  • Prepare and deliver technical briefings, architecture recommendations, and decision materials to program stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Support production troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex cross-system issues and drive architecture-level corrective actions.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field; extensive relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 9+ years of experience in enterprise architecture, large-scale system integration, software engineering, or technical leadership of complex systems.
  • Experience serving as a Solution Architect or equivalent senior architecture role supporting a Federal Government, DoD, or other mission-critical enterprise system.
  • Experience designing integrated solutions spanning application architecture, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, data, DevSecOps, and testing.
  • Experience working in Agile software development environments and collaborating across multidisciplinary technical and functional teams.
  • Strong understanding of architecture principles, integration patterns, scalability, performance, security, and maintainability.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts and architecture decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Active Secret clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship required.

DESIRED SKILLS

  • SAFe Solution Architect certification or equivalent, or ability to obtain.
  • AWS certification such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate or Professional.
  • Experience with the Appian Platform, with Appian architecture or Appian-based enterprise application experience preferred.
  • Experience supporting Army or DoD contract writing, acquisition, or other large-scale business process systems.
  • Familiarity with DoD architecture and cybersecurity frameworks such as DoDAF, RMF, and related security requirements.
  • Experience with cloud-native architectures, containers, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Experience aligning technical roadmaps and architectural runway with Agile Release Train or Solution Train delivery.
