A typical day for a Phlebotomist may include:

• Collecting blood and other laboratory specimens from patient populations using established venipuncture and capillary collection protocols.
• Accurately identifying, labeling, processing, and preparing specimens for laboratory testing at the point of collection while maintaining specimen integrity.
• Ensuring all specimens are handled and transported to the laboratory under proper environmental conditions, according to standards, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
• Providing compassionate, professional patient interactions while monitoring patients closely for adverse reactions during and after collection.
• Verifying patient identification using approved identification methods and following established procedures to promote patient safety and accurate testing.
• Maintaining accurate documentation of collection details within laboratory systems and assisting with specimen accessioning duties, including the operation and maintenance of automated equipment.
• Collaborating closely with nurses, physicians, laboratory staff, and other members of the healthcare team to support efficient patient care.
• Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment by keeping collection equipment well-stocked and following infection prevention practices, safety guidelines, and organizational policies.
• Pursuing continued professional development through training, education, and organizational resources that support long-term career growth.

To be considered for this Phlebotomist opportunity you must:

• Be passionate about delivering safe, accurate, and compassionate specimen collection services that support high-quality patient care while adhering to RWJBH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
• Have completed a phlebotomy training program or a medical laboratory technology program with phlebotomy training with certification preferred.
• 0 to 2 years of experience performing blood or specimen collection procedures.
• Demonstrate strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative healthcare team.
• Scheduling Requirements: Full Time (FT), Night Shift, 40 hours per week10:30 PM - 7:00 AM).
• Rotating weekends and holidays required.
