Position Summary

The Department of Pediatrics in the School of Medicine is seeking a detail-oriented, customer-focused Human Resources Technician to support staff and student recruitment, onboarding, personnel transactions, and workforce operations. As the second largest department within the School of Medicine, Pediatrics supports approximately 140 faculty, 380 staff, and numerous student employees across 18 divisions and centers located throughout multiple clinical, research, and administrative sites. The successful candidate must be able to manage multiple concurrent priorities, adapt to changing business needs, and independently coordinate assigned processes from initiation through completion.

This position serves as the primary coordinator for staff and student employment processes, including recruitment, onboarding, personnel transactions, compensation-related requests, and employee lifecycle activities. The HR Technician works closely with department leadership, hiring managers, School of Medicine Human Resources, and central UNM Human Resources to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant processing of employment actions.

The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills while effectively managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. This position requires ownership of assigned processes, not simply completion of individual tasks within those processes. The ideal candidate will proactively monitor deadlines, identify outstanding items, communicate with stakeholders, and ensure work progresses efficiently with minimal supervision.

Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, professionalism, confidentiality, customer service, and the ability to build productive working relationships with employees, supervisors, and institutional partners. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted resource to hiring managers and employees while supporting the department's commitment to timely, accurate, and responsive HR services.

See the Position Description for additional information.
