Description

Your Role

As a Project Delivery Lead in our dynamic Charlotte office, you will provide a unique architectural leadership skillset for fast-paced, highly collaborative project teams, guiding the work from design development through documentation and construction administration. Success in this role requires strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to guide internal and consultant teams and communicate effectively with clients and project stakeholders.

This role is for an experienced Project Architect who excels at turning design intent into coordinated, technically sound, buildable solutions. You will lead the fast-paced day-to-day delivery of the architectural work, bringing clarity to complex projects, coordinating across disciplines, and ensuring teams are working effectively toward key milestones. You will partner closely with the Design Manager and project leadership while taking primary responsibility for the quality, coordination, and execution of the architectural work of your team.

What You Will Do

  • Lead the architectural delivery of multiple fast-paced projects, maintaining quality and consistency across concurrent deadlines and deliverables
  • Serve as the embedded Project Architect and day-to-day architectural lead, guiding project teams through design development, construction documentation, permitting, and CA
  • Translate design intent into coordinated, technically rigorous, and constructible architectural solutions
  • Establish clear priorities for the architectural team, delegate work effectively, monitor progress, and keep deliverables moving against project milestones
  • Lead coordination between architects, designers, consultants, contractors, vendors, and other project partners, providing clear direction, facilitating effective communication, and building alignment across the team
  • Oversee the production and coordination of drawings, specifications, details, and project documentation
  • Anticipate technical and coordination issues, drive resolution, and elevate risks to project leadership when appropriate
  • Lead internal coordination and drawing reviews to ensure accuracy, completeness, constructability, and alignment with Gensler quality standards
  • Maintain strong knowledge of project scope and deliverables and communicate changes, risks, and resource needs to the Design Manager and project leadership
  • Lead technical coordination with structural, MEP, life safety, accessibility, lighting, and other specialty consultants
  • Support permitting efforts and interface with regulatory and permitting authorities as needed
  • Lead architectural aspects of construction administration, including RFIs, submittals, field observations, and resolution of construction issues
  • Work closely with Design Managers, Design Directors, and Technical Directors to balance design intent, technical requirements, schedule, and successful delivery
  • Mentor architects and designers, providing technical guidance, feedback, and direction while building strong, accountable project teams
  • Communicate directly with clients and project stakeholders, clearly articulating project decisions, technical considerations, coordination needs, risks, and next steps
  • Help strengthen project delivery practices by sharing lessons learned, technical knowledge, and best practices across teams

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture from an accredited program
  • Registered/Licensed Architect (if you are in the process of taking AREs, feel free to contact stephanie_contratto@gensler.com to determine whether another opening could be a match for your background)
  • 10+ years serving as a Project Architect on complex, fast-paced architectural projects
  • Demonstrated experience leading architectural teams through design development, construction documentation, permitting, and construction administration
  • Strong technical knowledge of architectural detailing, building systems, codes, accessibility requirements, documentation, and constructability
  • Demonstrated ability to lead consultant coordination and deliver highly coordinated construction documents
  • Strong proficiency in Revit and experience working within BIM-based project delivery environments
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and maintain quality while supporting multiple projects or accelerated schedules
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills with an ability to provide clear direction to project teams
  • Comfortable working independently, making decisions, identifying risks, and knowing when to engage Design Managers, Technical Directors, or other project leadership
  • Collaborative leadership style with demonstrated ability to mentor and develop architects and designers
  • Strong commitment to design excellence, technical quality, and successful project delivery

Please submit a resume and portfolio. This role is not remote or hybrid; we look forward to working with our new team member in our incredible Charlotte office.
