Lecturer Pool - Portuguese - Dept of Spanish & Portuguese

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at UC Berkeley seeks applications for a pool of qualified lecturers to teach Portuguese courses in any of the possible areas:

* Literature and culture courses on topics related to any area of the Lusophone world, upper-division, taught in Portuguese

* Literature and culture courses on topics related to any area of the Lusophone world, lower- or upper-division, taught in English

* Portuguese language courses

In addition to instruction, general duties include holding office hours, developing syllabi and assignments, writing and grading exams, and grading and commenting on papers. Other duties may be assigned by the Chair as necessary.

Must have an advanced degree.

For those who are not US citizens or permanent residents, a legal permit that allows work in the United States (such as a US visa that allows employment) is required by start date of the position. The Department is unable to provide a visa/work permit.

* Native or near-native fluency in Portuguese and English.

* College level teaching experience in the U.S.

* For literature/culture instruction (upper division courses): Doctoral degree (or equivalent).

* For literature/culture instruction (lower/upper division courses): Demonstrated expertise and relevant teaching experience in Lusophone literature and culture, with possible emphasis on cultural production from Brazil, Portugal or Luso-Africa, including literature and cinema.

* For language instruction: Demonstrated excellence in teaching, familiarity with college-level language programs, and relevant teaching experience using current language-teaching methodologies.
