Job Description The Respiratory Specialist is a Licensed Practical Nurse or Paramedic performs routine respiratory therapy in the care of the ill, injured, or infirm patient under the direction of a Registered Respiratory Therapist. Under the direction of the Registered Respiratory Therapist, provides routine nebulizer and meter dose inhaler treatments and titration of a nasal cannula in accordance with departmental and Hospital policies and procedures. Responsibilities Responsible for the safe and effective administration of medically prescribed medications, knowing their indications and contraindications. Knows and follows the indications and contraindications, the policy and procedures in administering therapeutic modalities to include: Small Volume Nebulizer (SVN), Metered Dose Inhaler (MDI), EKG, Oxygen Therapy via a 1 - 6 lpm Nasal Cannula Maintains accurate and legible records, documenting clinical notes in patients' charts. Participation in reporting patient progress, and prioritizing patient condition to the next shift. Participates in staff meetings, attends lectures, conferences and seminars. Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure. Pursues professional growth and development.
