Summary:
The Trauma Process Improvement Coordinator evaluates and monitors the quality of clinical care of the injured patient across the continuum of care from point of injury to discharge from the hospital. The following performance improvement and patient safety (PIPS) mechanisms are used: concurrent chart review, issue identification, primary-secondary-and tertiary reviews, multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary reviews, performance improvement monitoring, outcomes reporting.
The position requires a knowledge base of project management principles, clinical, regulatory, quality, and safety initiatives, with the goal to improve clinical care documentation, regulatory compliance, workflow procedures.
Responsibilities:
*Develops the performance improvement and patient safety (PIPS) program of the Trauma Department in accordance with American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma Guidelines (ACS-COT), the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services (NCOEMS), and the North Carolina Committee on Trauma (NC-COT).
*Identifies performance improvement issues through direct observation of clinical care, concurrent chart review, staff reporting, and attendance at morning report.
*Uses process improvement methodologies to prevent identified issues from recurring.
*Organizes, assists with and documents stakeholder meetings for tertiary review and peer review.
*Defines, prepares and delivers aggregate metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of the PIPS program through daily concurrent chart review, and primary review of regulated events such as Morbidity/Mortality, Non-Surgical Admits, Patient Transfers, Diversions, and Trauma Activations.
*Inputs outcome data into the trauma registry and produces aggregate data for quality reporting purposes and executive reporting. Evaluates safety incidences and completes reports in the electronic incident reporting system.
*Serves as a resource person to all staff caring for the injured trauma patient.
*Collaborates with a cross functional stakeholder population across the organization, providing and receiving feedback regarding PIPS program efforts
*Assists in coordinating and teaching trauma-related clinical continuing education, and executing interdisciplinary educational programs for health care professions regarding care of the injured patient
*Maintains knowledge of ACS "Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient" most current guidelines and those of NCOEMS and NC-COT, meeting all educational and meeting attendance requirements.
*Pursues documentation, administrative responses, and corrective measures per ACS regulations.
Other information:
Required
*Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited college of Nursing, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
*Must be licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of North Carolina or one of compact states.
*Three (3) years of experience working as a registered nurse in a clinical role
*Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
*Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
*Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification
*Completion of a Trauma Process Improvement Course
Preferred
*Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited college of Nursing or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
*One (1) year clinical nurse experience working in a trauma center facility.
*One (1) year experience as a PI Coordinator in a trauma center facility.
*Experience working in a healthcare quality organization or role.
*Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) as issued by the National Association for Healthcare Quality (NAHQ).
*Participated in an Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) class.
*Participate in an ICD-10 course.
*Certified as an instructor for Advanced Trauma Care for Nurse (ATCN) and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification
