Job Family Engineering Discipline Fire Protection Engineering Career Level P3-P5 Salary Range P3: $85,700-$120,000; P4: $99,400-$144,000; P5: $124,000-$180,000 Note for Salary This is the range within which SRNS expects the majority of qualified candidates would enter this role if offered. Actual offers may be more or less than the amounts shown depending on candidate's qualifications, experience, internal equity, and other factors. Job Family Description Engineering roles perform engineering work in operations, production, construction, or maintenance environments. They may design and scale up manufacturing processes, instruments and equipment and tests manufactured products to maintain quality. They may plan, design, and estimate time and cost and oversees construction and maintenance of structures, facilities, systems, and components. They analyze and develop solutions to engineering problems related to manufacturing equipment and systems or the causes of component failures. They develop and apply engineering standards and procedures and provide advice on issues within the engineering field. Discipline Description Fire protection engineers develop and implement fire protection programs and procedures to maintain fire protection and life safety systems. They implement programs and procedures to ensure employee and facility safety is in accordance with codes and standards including DOE standards, ICC codes and NFPA Code and Standard requirements. They conduct Fire Hazard Analysis and develop Fire Scenario Documentation for nuclear and non-nuclear facilities to prevent fire and determine controls that protect personnel, facilities, and the environment from the effects of a fire. Fire protection engineers maintain current knowledge of building and fire protection codes and regulations to assure compliance, survey facilities to determine potential fire hazards and recommend corrective action. They review and approve the more complex documents required for new construction or modification of existing facilities to determine appropriate fire prevention. They specify and monitor inspection, testing and maintenance of fire protection systems and equipment to ensure that in an emergency they operate and perform to applicable codes and standards, and participates in the investigation of all facets of any fire to determine the origin, cause, and what, if any, breakdown in the fire protection plans and procedures may have occurred. Some Typical Duties & Responsibilities Include: Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Required Qualifications P3: * Bachelor's degree in an engineering or relevant field plus at least five years of experience (YOE) in a relevant role, OR Master's degree in relevant field plus at least two years of experience (YOE), OR Doctoral degree in relevant field. We'd Also Like to See Degree in Electrical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Civil Engineering. Career Band Professional Career Band Description * Roles in this band apply the knowledge in area of expertise to analyze information; design and develop new approaches, methodologies and processes; and, provide professional advice and guidance to others in accordance with professional quality standards Career Level Description P3: Requires in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge in own field/discipline, solving complex problems with minimal guidance and oversight. Security Clearance Information SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. Factors such as pre-employment background review results, dual citizenship status, and unpaid and/or unfiled taxes may impact your ability to obtain a security clearance.
